that is really funny. LOL Thanks
She's right here. Guns in a purse or in a car do absolutely no good what so ever if the purse isn't in hand or the person is out of the car. On the person is the surest way to have it ready for use. She got lucky the criminals were so stupid as to let her go to her purse when they could have simply looked for themselves.
Darreon Carter - common Amish name.
I am betting the cops still have the gun.
As you know well, there is such an anti-gun hysteria whipped up by the lib press that these kind of stories never get printed. All you read about, concerning hand-guns, is some innocent person, especially a child, accidentally getting shot by one. The average person knows little about the cases like this one where the victim got immediate justice against two violent criminals.
If she had a 5 shot revolver, she got the best outcome. Try to explain a reload to a jury.
This is the very reason why I have always recommended that women, especially, carry revolvers. They can be more reliably be fired from within bags and garments. Not only are the advantages of this obvious and reasonable, they are thoroughly well demonstrated by anecdotes like this. I HATE it when some fake expert recommends that women carry full-sized large bore automatics and "dress for success" (that is, dress like Pacific trappers year round).
I like revolvers too, but isn’t there just as much chance of an external moving part getting hung up on something as would be the case with a semi-automatic?
I still carry revolvers most of the time for the reasons you mention. Can be fired easily from a pocket and are very reliable. No stove pipes or jams with a revolver. I do have two autos that I sometimes carry but neither is a big bore. I highly recommend revolvers for anyone who is new to the shooting game and wants to get a CCW, easier to learn, harder to reload, yes, but usually you aren't going to shoot 15 times in a gun fight anyway.Speed loaders make reloading easier and with practice amost as fast as shoving in a new mag.
Precautionary. For all she knew the 2 inside had 2 backups outside.
Good thinking.
I always love the “alleged” tag...wonder if his tombstone will read, “allegedly dead”.
Well, I think that shrouded or so-called "hammerless" revolvers are more ideal for this sort of counter-ambush than a classic Colt Police Positive. The reciprocating slide and ejection cycle of the auto are harder to obviate.
and there it is... ya gotta love the hammerless S&W
"She's just experienced a home invasion and attempted rape by two strangers. She grabbed her gun in instinctive survival mode...Given the opportunity for an instant, why wouldn't she reload?"
True.
No such animal.
Now, a Smith & Wesson Ladysmith, maybe.
Good for this lady!
From the story, it seems that she lived in a single-entry apartment building, in which her front door wasn’t guarded by another set of secure outside doors. She should consider moving to another apartment complex with at least one (two is better) secure sets of outside doors.
>>If she had a 5 shot revolver, she got the best outcome. Try to explain a reload to a jury.
Which she did (Ladysmith), so you are exactly correct. And further, from the article linked in #46, we have:
>>Carter was shot in the head and leg. The second suspect, 23-year-old Daniel Holman, remains in critical condition in a Tulsa hospital. He was shot in the head and stomach.
So it appears she got at least 4 hits, maybe 5, out of 5, including two head shots. I bet police-involved shootings involving 5 or more shots fired by the police, with hits in the 80-100% range, are less than 10% of such encounters.
This lady did a phenomenal job in a tough, tough situation.
