About that mosque
NY Post ^ | July 26, 2010 | Editorial

If freedom of religion means anything in the United States, it means that Mus lim-Americans have a right to congre gate and worship wherever they please -- including places those with vivid memories of 9/11 may find distasteful.

But that doesn't mean the people behind a planned mosque blocks away from Ground Zero are acting like good neighbors -- or good citizens.

Exhibit A: Their secrecy about who'll actually be funding the project.

Granted, the groups leading the mosque-building effort seem just fine.

The Cordoba Initiative, led by Kuwaiti-born Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, says it's devoted to "interfaith tolerance," while its sister organization, The American Society for Muslim Advancement, seeks to "foster an American Muslim identity."

But it is hardly unknown for US Muslim leaders to preach one message in public and another behind closed doors.

Cash, on the other hand, rarely lies -- and that's precisely what Rauf & Co. need to address.

Rauf has said to domestic audiences that money to build the 13-story mosque-cum-community center will be raised from among American Muslims -- though he hasn't said from whom.

Yet he recently told an Arabic-language newspaper in Britain that funding would also come from Arab countries.

Setting aside the Islamists' lame disingenuous rationalizations and obvious sinister cynical exploitations of our Judeo/Christian values of religious liberty, this “In Your Face Infidels!” mosque will foul Islam/American relations as long as it overlooks with impudent pride the scene of Mohammed's followers most evil and savage triumph.

If this were truly about tolerance the building and all it activities would be dedicated to an abhorence of and intolerance toward all terrorist activities but especially those that caused the terror at ground 0. Let this be a memorial to the memory of the 9/11 victims and a monument to the obliteration of Muslim extremism and there will be little opposition to its construction.

Freedom of religion as we know it is tantamount to suicide.

My take on this is to let them build their MOSQUE. The are the only place of worship down there. We should be able to keep a close eye on them and the people coming and going inside the building.

Also with a weasel for a Mayor like Bloomberg, if anything unfortunate happens , it will be on his watch.

Maybe it’ll have them all (or nearly all) gathering at one place- it would seem that might have some tactical advantages.

Vlad the Impaler had the right idea, Impale them on posts and line the roads with their impaled bodies.

Read history about the Muslim invasion of Europe, namely Spain and the eastern European countries. Muslim are bent on world domination. The ones that are not radical will go along with the radical ones just to get along.

Use laws for historical preservation of the building where they want to build that mosque to deny them the site for building their “ Symbol of Victory over the U.S.” which is what they will all know it in reality is.

Freedom of religion as we know it is tantamount to suicide.

And which ones would you stop tolerating? Only Islam? Maybe those funny looking Hindus need scrutiny too. As for Mormons, presbyterians, Baptists, Methodists, Anabaptists, Ecumenicals, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Anglicans, Lutherans and 7th day adventists, we have to tag and bag them too. Can't forget the Jews either, nor the jains, Shintoists, Bahais and Sikhs.

Freedom of religion does cause problems, but far fewer than intolerance of religion or selected religions. Better to ban specific actions (e.g. preaching hate) than to ban a belief system. When a government goes up against a religion, my money is on the religion.

"The Cordoba Initiative, led by Kuwaiti-born Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, says it's devoted to "interfaith tolerance," while its sister organization, The American Society for Muslim Advancement, seeks to "foster an American Muslim identity."

Both bald-faced lies. Anyone with a rudimentary knowledge of the history of "La reconquista" or the retaking of Spain from Moorish domination understands the significance of the name "Cordoba" and the provence of Andalucia. When I heard that they intend to call the mosque "Cordoba House" it sent chills up my spine. The structure is nothing more than Islam's "in your face" memorial to its renewed attack on Christendom.

There seems to be a big difference between a mere place of worship, heavily used one day a week, and a “community center”.

I suspect the planned building will have offices, cafeterias and sleeping quarters.

How is that necessary for exercise of their religion?

Your cousin, John Galt, believes in property rights. You apparently don’t. It doesn’t matter if the mosque is totally focused on “exercise of religion.” It has a matter of property rights. Read Atlas Shrugged!

If freedom of religion means anything in the United States, it means that Mus lim-Americans have a right to congre gate and worship wherever they please —

It does NOT mean that...It means they have a right to worship. The “where” is always an issue.

You can’t pray on the steps of the Supreme Court[apparently]...they could not choose to build a mosque on the Mall.

In any event, the Church refused to sell the land.

Done and done.

If the terrorist religion is allowed to erect their mosque, it will precipitate a second American civil war and the overthrow of the current socialist regime.

Maybe American Jews, who so love diversity and tolerance could fund the construction of a temple in Mecca.

No more mosques or muslim cultural centers allowed in the US until churches can be opened in Mecca and Medina.....

If freedom of religion means anything in the United States

If it means anything Muslims here should be charged with fraud. Islam is a military organization masquerading as a religion. It is less a religion than Nazism is.

Hope you didn't put any money on the Thugees :0)

The British all but destroyed them in India: nothing left but wannabes and extras from Harrison Ford movies.

Death-cults can be destroyed. As you say, in principle it would be possible even in America: the govt merely needs to aggressively enforce the laws that Islam's finest tend to break: e.g. child-endangerment and abuse, spousal abuse, ties to terrorism, conspiracy to commit murder.

But of course there's presently a huge gulf between what the law is and what the Govt will enforce. We only have to ask Governor Brewer.

“If freedom of religion means anything”

This very concept has been brought into disrepute by the Muslims.
