Monday July 26, 2010Gov. Christie Vetoes Millions to Planned Parenthood
By Peter J. Smith TRENTON, New Jersey, July 26, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) As New Jerseys Republican Governor Chris Christie continues to fulfill a campaign pledge to restore state government to fiscal sanity, he has vetoed a bill that would have dedicated $7.5 million in state to family planning clinics, most of which are run by Planned Parenthood. New Jerseys Star Ledger reported that Christie in his veto message said that the state simply cannot fund every worthy program and would not restore $7.5 million for family planning clinics that he had cut from the states budget for fiscal year 2011. Marie Tasy, executive director of New Jersey Right to Life, praised Christie for standing by his decision to cut funds for Planned Parenthood. The taxpayers of New Jersey are under no obligation to fund the radical and failed social agenda of Planned Parenthood, said Marie Tasy, according to the Star-Ledger. We commend Governor Christie for his steadfast opposition to restoring these funds. Christie issued the veto along with vetoes of two bills that would have established a $100 million tax credit program for new homebuyers, and redirected government funds to enroll 39,000 low-income individuals in the states subsidized health insurance program. "State spending has been reset to levels the taxpayers can afford, said Christie in a stern message to the legislature. Supplemental spending that would return to the unchecked spending and out of control budget shortfalls of the past will not make it past the Governor's desk." Reports indicate that the Democrat-controlled Legislature may seek to mount a veto-override. |

... he has vetoed a bill that would have dedicated $7.5 million in state [funds] to family planning clinics, most of which are run by Planned Parenthood.
Ok, so far, this guy is the real deal.
As long as he adheres to 2A, I support him fully.
Good for him. Now if he can just that pesky immigration thing right.
He would never run, but the courage displayed by Christie could lead this country to greatness...
He needs to change his Open Border attitude.
EXCELLENT
What makes you think he'd never run?
He would just destroy Obama in the presidential debates in 2012. Obama wouldn't even want to show up at the third one.
Nobo will never have a real debate.
Remember when Pelosi said that abortions stimulate the economy? She really probably meant that they reduce education costs but that was not PC so she gave the silly ‘stimulate’ argument.
That’s the only thing that would keep me from voting for him should he run nationally. His weak stance on illegals and the RKBA.
WOW! I love this man.
After he cleans up New Jersey, maybe we can persuade him to run for prez!
Anyone from NJ care to comment?
Ping. Some good news.
Open border attitude? That story has no legs. He was asked for a legal opinion and he gave it. No interjecting his opinion on the way things ought to be, just the facts and he was correct.
Who cares? If we cannot afford something then that has to be the reason.
If you stand-up to the left -- their politicians and their media -- you can win.
Is anybody listening? And learning?
“Nobo will never have a real debate.”
With Charlie Gibson, Keith Olbermann, Katie Couric, Rachel Madcow and other $h!the@d$ as moderators, he’d love one.
Gov. Christie kicks more lib butt. ping
The FIRST group he addressed shortly after being elected was a surprise appearance at the pro-life New Jersey Family Policy annual dinner.
As Gov-elect, Chris Christie assured Family Policy group: "NJ has a proudly pro-life governor
Gov Christie thanked the audience for all of the work done on behalf of New Jersey families. Christie told the New Jersey Family Policy group about his own family and his kids and spoke about their shared values.
Then-Governor-elect Christie graciously acknowledged all of the New Jersey Family Policy award recipients and made special note of the Legislator of The Year Award winner----pro-life Assemblyman Jay Webber.
Assemblyman Webber has agreed to serve as the New Jersey Republican Party Chairman, thus placing pro-life issues at the center of the seat of power in New Jersey.
Governor-elect Christie promised to fight for family values. He will work for parental notification so that 13-year old children would need parental permission before obtaining an abortion.
Governor elect Christie brought the New Jersey Family Policy audience to their feet when he told them that "New Jersey has a proudly pro-life governor. There was a full two minute standing ovation.
Governor elect Christie also promised to veto any proposal to impose gay marriage on the people of the State.
Assurance that changes in Trenton are eminent.
2nd amendment, 10th amendment, secure the borders, no card check, no global warming hysteria including cap and trade, control the Fed, budget control, right to life issues all would put him as a legitimate contender. He does have cajones, huevos, pelotas that few male GOPers seem to have.
Rest assured that after putting down that press idiot about a month ago, dinosaurs will be trying every trick in the book to catch him making some kind of gaffe.
