Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has edged ahead of his Republican opponent Sharron Angle in his bid for reelection in Nevada. Both candidates are seen to hold extreme views by large segments of the population.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Nevada finds Reid with 45% of the vote, while Angle earns 43% support. Seven percent (7%) favor some other candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.
But 48% of the states voters have a Very Unfavorable view of Reid. Forty-one percent (41%) say the same of Angle. Overall, 55% have at least a somewhat unfavorable opinion of Reid and 56% view Angle at least somewhat unfavorably.
Sixty-two percent (62%) describe the longtime Democratic senator as a liberal, and 50% characterize his views as extreme. Forty-one percent (41%) put Reid in the mainstream.
Angle, who is seen as a conservative by 81% of the states voters, is viewed as holding extreme views by 58%. Thirty-seven percent (37%) see the GOP nominee in the mainstream.
Not surprisingly, Democrats tend to see Reids views as mainstream and Angles views as extreme. Republicans hold the opposite perspective. Among voters not affiliated with either major party, 55% consider Reids views extreme while 52% say the same about Angle.

This is not good. What can be done?
Paging Sarah Palin....need some help here!
The growth of Las Vegas must have imported lots of brain dead/Hollywood type voters into Nevada. We can win by turning out a bit higher percentage of our voters on election day while their voters are still hung over.
If Nevadians (is that a word?) elect this human feces again, I’ll boycott Vegas - which I love going to.
Please, someone drop that sorry sack of stuff off the highest hotel.
Phoney polls prepare us for phoney vote counts.
wonderful. we couldn’t have done a better job out of screwing ourselves if we had been trying.
the “rino” establishment candidate looks awfully damn good right now.
No doubt they are counting all the illegals who are moving from Arizona to Nevada in order to vote for Harry Reid. The illegals will then return to Arizona.
These results are not bad at all, given the battering that Angle has taken in recent weeks.
I spoke to my nephew in NV last week, and his crowd is determined to crawl over broken glass to defeat Reid. And this family were previous Lowden supporters.
Angle won. Lowden and Tarkanian lost. It is time to act as adults and get Angle across the finish line.
Any other Republican nominee would have won this race handily. Angle needs to run to the center and attract independent voters.
With unemployment in Nevada at 15%, this shouldn’t even be close. I like Angle’s politics, but she has her work cut out for her in this election. She simply must attract independent voters.
Danny Tarkanian would have been the best choice to win. People have to understand that the media and television advertisements actually do sway large portions of the population. Sometimes when you try to get a whole loaf, you end up with none.
This is what happens when primary voters don’t think ahead to the general. Or maybe Dems crossed over to give Reid the weakest candidate?
I saw Angle on FOX news and she is clearly not ready for prime time.
A virtual unknown has one of the most powerful democrat incumbants in the country running for his political life and this is spun as good news for Reid?
Reid coming out for a full-scale public option last weekend at the Nut-Roots convention was really stupid. He showed his ass, now the Angle campaign needs to kick it hard.
What sort of support did the Health Care Reform have in NV? Sure seems like Reid is vulnerable on that issue. Hit Harry with a "ignores the will of the people of Nevada" ad, and regardless of how he responds, keep running it.
So now Rasmussen is a "phoney [sic] poll"? Is a "phoney [sic] poll" one that contains results that you do not like, or do you have evidence to back up your claim?
I blame the NRA for a lot of this.
Lots of conservative gun folk are saying, well, if the the NRA thinks he’s good, he’s maybe not as bad as I thought he was...
I saw her on Cavuto’s show and have to say that I wasn’t terribly impressed. Better than Reid ,of course, but I think Lowden would probably be whooping his boney a**.

Well, I would rather Angle be in the lead at this point. BUT given that at a least one poll showed her down by 7 as late as last week, this isn’t bad news. Reid launched the mother of all “my opponent is a looney” smear attacks and it’s still basically tied.
Let’s hope Reid’s seen his high water peak.
