President Obama calls African-Americans a ‘mongrel people’ By Sam Youngman - 07/29/10 11:00 AM ET
NEW YORK CITY -- President Obama waded into the national race debate in an unlikely setting and with an unusual choice of words: telling daytime talk show hosts that African-Americans are “sort of a mongrel people.”
The president appeared on ABC’s morning talk show “The View” Thursday, where he talked about the forced resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod, his experience with race and his roots.
When asked about his background, which includes a black father and white mother, Obama said of African-Americans: "We are sort of a mongrel people."
"I mean we're all kinds of mixed up," Obama said. "That's actually true of white people as well, but we just know more about it."
The president did not appear to be making an inflamatory remark with his statement. The definition of mongrel as an adjective is defined as "of mixed breed, nature, or origin," according to dictionary.com.

Well, he’s speaking the truth, for once. It’s tough to find a black American with pure African blood.
My ancestry traces back to America, Europe, and Africa, but it says “negro” on my birth certificate. It’s just a fact. Nothing to get worked up about, in my opinion.

Mongrel as a word to describe humans of mixed heritage has a long and not very illustrious past.

Agreed, I'd be willing to bet if a black person says something "offensive" about whites, it isn't so much the comment in itself, it's the feigned OUTRAGE that would come if it were the other way around. For example, I couldn't care less what Ben Jealous of the NAACP says, what p#sses me off is that if it were a white person saying the same about him the howls you'd hear from the MSM and the left in general.

Sort of like the white people who used perfectly good words like “niggardly”, “black hole” or “Eenie, meenie, minie, moe”? It all depends on who’s doing the saying, doesn’t it?
He's nuts. Other night he threw a salute to Broadway musicals at the White House. Yup...he started off about how much show-tunes taught us about race.

Still and all, would you describe your family as “mongrel”?
Or would you be a bit more dignified?
If I described my geneology I’d say it’s a “hodge podge.” “Some of this, some of that.”
Basically paraphrasing Bill Murray’s speech from Stripes:
“We’re all very different people. We’re not Watusi. We’re not Spartans. We’re Americans, with a capital ‘A’, huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We’re the underdog. We’re mutts!”
I predict that Rush will do that today, followed by the State Run Media having an attack and calling for Rush to be banned from the air.
