I'd leave "commie" out of that list. Because it was the commie, and the Brit, media that put out the first "rumors". Also substitute Roosevelt supporting for Obama supporting. It was dismissed as anti-German propaganda, along the lines of what was seen from both sides during WW-I.
I also think its something of a stretch to see this as supporting the pro-queer, pro-abortion agenda. That is the outrage over the practice. The practice itself is very anti-family and anti normal marriage. The whole point is to make the girl undesirable. It doesn't work for those with rape as their intent, but what does it do in the case of men with more honorable intentions?
As you said, these are some of the same people who practice clitoral removal on their daughters. Why would you not believe they were using other methods of suppressing the girls' sexuality?

Since there is not that much non liberal media reporting out of Africa, you have to look for clues, such as internal consistency, multiple independent reports, etc.
The story fits the liberal agenda that men are no good beasts, but it does not in the sense that the mothers, mothers of color no less, are also the heavies in the story. Usually they are portrayed as the victims of the aforementioned beasts.
