It is a portrait of Aisha, a shy 18-year-old Afghan woman who was sentenced by a Taliban commander to have her nose and ears cut off for fleeing her abusive in-laws. Aisha posed for the picture and says she wants the world to see the effect a Taliban resurgence would have on the women of Afghanistan, many of whom have flourished in the past few years. Her picture is accompanied by a powerful story by our own Aryn Baker on how Afghan women have embraced the freedoms that have come from the defeat of the Taliban — and how they fear a Taliban revival. . .

Why would Time want to show us the seamy side of the utopian society they support every day? After all, they have no interest in Castro or Stalin’s gulags? Why start now?

I guess we are going to destroy the Taliban and find them wherever they hide no matter which country and bring them all to justice right? Yes about time to get serious!
Oh no wait excuse me.
We are going to play footsie with them, by which I mean more random skirmishes, let them have a power base in Pakistan while making money from opium and our own contractors/allies and then let them back in to the government in Kabul that we prop up.
Well the important thing is that all these women will be wearing burkas again so it will be impossible to tell if they have had their ears or noses cut off or their face burned with acid.
This is so very sad. Didn’t Obama discuss recognizing the Taliban as a legitimate government in Afghanistan? I believe the UN has unofficially appointed someone within the ranks to have ‘talks’ with. These people don’t negotiate.
To justify Obama keeping our troops there longer? Or for not having pulled them out yet?
yah...just like I cannot understand American Jew’s hatred for Israel, I cannot understand why so many liberal womyn support Islam that not only commits but encourages atrocities like these.

It is quite simple really I used to date a feminist.
Breaks down like so FRiend:
Western (White men) cultures can be sexist just by having things such as lipstick which are just ways to make all womyn cheap whores.
Eastern cultures (Yellow men) can also do this but not as bad as the Western ones.
African (Black man) do this and commit rapes but only because of outside Western influences called Post-Colonialism.
Indigenous (Brown) people are exotic and their customs are to be respected and trying to judge them by Western standards is racist on top of paternal (sexist) and imperialist (or whatever word they use now).
So in short that the Taliban beat women and throw acid on their face for going to school is just an expression of their culture and if about the same as when you check out a girl from head to toe.
Never dated a American Jewish women who hated Israel so I can’t help you with that one.
So what did she see in you while it lasted?
Any woman who was smart would be wearing the burkha again RIGHT NOW. It don’t take a weatherman to tell which way the wind blows. And I hope that girl is safely out of the country, because her life isn’t worth a plugged nickel now. Moreover, I hope Time helps her get a new nose. Would be just freaking like them to take the picture and then dump her right back on the street.

What a horrific place. There is absolutely no value given to human life there. I can only thank God over and over that I was born in the US.
