GREGG: SOLICITOR GENERAL ELENA KAGAN IS QUALIFIED TO BE THE NEXT ASSOCIATE JUSTICE OF THE U.S. SUPRE
Judd Gregg ^ | July 30, 2010 | Judd Gregg

Posted on 07/30/2010 4:08:29 PM PDT by Sir Valentino

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) today made the following statement regarding the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court.

Senator Gregg stated, “The Senate’s duty to provide advice and consent on Presidential nominations to the Supreme Court is one of its most significant constitutional responsibilities. Separate and distinct from its legislative function, the confirmation process requires the Senate to put aside politics and conduct a frank and evenhanded review of the nominee’s record, qualifications and demonstrated ability to apply the law in a fair and impartial manner.

“I have met personally with Solicitor General Elena Kagan, reviewed her record, and followed her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee. During this process, Ms. Kagan has pledged that she will exercise judicial restraint and decide each case that comes before her based on the law, with objectivity and without regard to her personal views. She also has served the American people under two different administrations and has a strong legal academic background. She is qualified to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Ms. Kagan and I may have different political philosophies, but I believe that the confirmation process should be based on qualifications, not ideological litmus tests or political affiliation. I will vote for her confirmation.”

NH gets back about 80% of what they pay in Fed Taxes. I wonder if he’s bringing home some pork. Union pork, I’d imagine.

'She’s never been a judge, never held a gavel."

Either was Rehnquist, and any number of prior Justices for that matter. Her judicial experience - or lack thereof - isn't what disqualifies. It's her flagrant and overarching contempt for the Constitution that makes her appointment untenable.

Kagan has NEVER BEEN A JUDGE - she’s not even qualified for American Idol, let alone the Supreme Court. Come on, people, let’s get real. This is a new low point for our country.

Vote ‘em all out — Dem or Republican

And replace them with what??? This happened it PA in a state election several years ago. The Republican voters and Dem voters did vote out all the crop of Republican voters, but the dem voters DID NOT vote out Dems.

So for a few years we had houses controlled by dems, with Rendell being voted in as Governor.

Now remember the dems have no conscience and will not hold to any promise. So going by your knee jerk foolish call we would end up with O getting both hoses and then SCOTUS. So your call seems stupid to say the least!

"Kagan has NEVER BEEN A JUDGE - she’s not even qualified for American Idol, let alone the Supreme Court."

As I said to the other poster, there is a long and deep history of appointing attorneys that had no bench experience whatsoever to the Court, icluding former CJs Rehnquist and Marshall, and associate Justices Brandeis and Franfurter - those aren't small figures in the history of the Court, those are towering figures in the history of the Court.

It's not that she doesn't have any judicial experience, it's that she almost no experience actually practicing law to include no litigation experience and no arbitration experience of any kind and that is compounded by the fact that she has troubling positions on some foundational constitutional principles.

“It’s one big socialist Republicrat party.”

They believe in an Oligarchy. A small group telling us what to do and think. They see themselves as the Knights of the Round Table and believe they are nobility. We did not escape England completely. There is too many that believe in a class system which is the antithesis of “all men are created equal.”

When people fall in love with people like Jackie Kennedy and revere them as Camelot reborn you’re on your way to serfdom. Build half-way houses in the Hamptons and help these people get-a-life.

We have too many that secretly believe that saving the Goldman boys was justified because they believe that passing paper that has no intrinsic value is real work.

Remember Chelsea Clinton is an investment banker. At Stanford she changed from Chemistry to History. From a useful career to we’ll I’ll get an easy job because you know who my parents are. Rino or Democrap all the same when it comes to privilege.

No one should vote for either Dem or GOP...we are screwed with either in office. Time to end the career politician.

I predicted that he would vote for her soon after she was nominated right on this board. He voted for Ruth Buzzi Ginsberg so this is in keeping with what he has done in the past. I don’t think he has ever voted against any nominee.
