TEXAS CITY, TX (KTRK) -- We have an update on our top story from Wednesday. The owner of a Texas City animal rescue sanctuary is facing a fire storm of criticism after our story on two lost dogs that were not returned to their owner. Now that animal sanctuary owner is talking to us in person about the dogs and the decision to adopt them out. There is no doubt the Whiskerville Animal Sanctuary has helped hundreds of cats and dogs, but it is what happened with two lost dogs that has upset so many people and now the sanctuary owner wants to explain her actions.

I’m not impressed with this animal house.
“Dixon also said it is clear the dogs belonged to Garza, but said the adoption process was already underway, and since Zeus was in a new home and the new owners would not give up the dog, Dixon said there was nothing she could do to reunite the owner with Nikko and Zeus.”
Sounds like theft to me.
It is theft. As long as nobody can show the dogs’ owner had been mistreating them, I don’t know why she can’t get a court order in effect repossessing the animals, or requiring Whiskerville to pay for them considering their sentimental value (which would mean far more than the customary adoption fee).
If Freepers want to comment, their email address seems to be whiskerville@sbcglobal.net
(Is there a dog/cat ping list?)
I guess you need to microchip dogs around this area to protect your pets against being sold out from under you...
I get a kick out of pet adoption people that won't let you have a dog outside unless with a fenced in yard or a pen- who are they to dictate how you keep your dog? My dogs have been on 40 ft leashes outside when we are away from the house - they always rather be outside anyways and they guard the house. The only way I could adopt from these agencies is to lie.
Sounds like theft to me also.
You’d think that the dogs’ real owner could press charges of theft against the animal house.
