Muslims Know the Symbolism of the Ground Zero Mosque
Human Events ^ | 8/3/10 | James Zumwalt

Symbolism is at play in the debate over a grand mosque being built near the site of Islamic extremism’s greatest terrorist victory against a democracy. While many embrace its construction as symbolic of a democratic society’s tolerance, there is danger in not understanding the symbolically sinister side of its construction as well. As much as we hear about Islamic extremists only representing a small percentage of the Muslim community, it is difficult to forget the images of euphoria in many Muslim countries as news of the 9/11 attacks spread.

Have these good muslims ever stated why they chose that particular location?

I can only assume it is meant to be a slap in the face.

Regarding the mosque site preferred by Mayor Bloomburg if the structure ever gets built, which I doubt it will be, dedication day should include an enormous explosion that takes a large number of attending Moslems with it.

Now that'd be truly symbolic ~ a veritable landmark in and of itself.

Some in America have chosen to honor the murderers of the 911 Atrocities.

Another FReeper said it so well: “It is tantamount to placing a memorial to the Kamikaze pilots on the deck of the U.S.S. Arizona.

Outside of an election, it will be the biggest and cruelest joke ever played on New Yorkers.

It would be interesting if it were very well known and very widely circulated in a statement that both bacon and pig lard had been liberally mixed in with the cement that made the foundation and was used in the bricks of the building BEFORE the building was occupied.

There are those in NY who think you haven't suffered enough.

Thanks, NYC Landmarks Commission.. for nothing.

A woman carries a sign as she attends a meeting of the New York City Landmarks Commission in lower Manhattan, August 3, 2010. The City agency denied "landmark" status for an old building near the site of the September 11 attacks, clearing the way for the building to be torn down to make room for a Muslim cultural center which has spurred heated debate. We should build a basilica dedicated to the memory of saints martyred at Muslim hands right next to the Ka’aba. See how they like that, yes?

that is a thought many are harboring but what about the collateral damage to surrounding buildings and innocent people. here we are again and were this to happen, we would be no better than those evildoers who flew planes into the buildings and the PA field. There has to be another way to stop this mosque.

ANybody know who authorized these people? I think it might be useful to name those folk so they can be properly ‘thanked’ for their work here.

I would suspect those pictures would be posted in this mosque not like you would see to remember Pearl Harbor but to highlight their successful effort and the conquering of NY.
How about an impeachment of Bloomburg? NOW!

I can only assume it is meant to be a slap in the face.

Of course it is. They're building one in Tours, France as well... for the same reason.

symbolically sinister side

Ah, but people are basically gooooood. If we're nice to them, they'll be nice to us. If we all just join hands and sing kum-by-ah, the world will live in perfect harmony.

How many people must die a violent death before liberal nut-jobs understand that people are NOT basically good, and that inviting people who want to slaughter you to move in next door is beyond stupid?

I thought that posting a giant poster of those Mohammed cartoons would do a better job. The pictures are good for a few laughs.
