Portland, Oregon is a "sanctuary city," where illegal immigrants can live and work freely without fear of recrimination or deportation. But try operating a lemonade stand without a license, and risk getting your business closed down by the long arm of the law.
Apparently, Portland offers no sanctuary to home-grown criminals, like seven year olds trying to earn a little cash selling lemonade on the street. See State Closes Seven Year Old's Lemonade Stand.
If the child were in the country illegally, the authorities probably would have walked on by, without checking the legality of her business or asking to see her papers. They might even be reprimanded if they questioned her. Unfortunately for her, the poor girl couldn't cry "racism," "police intimidation," or threaten a law suit. She could just cry. And so could I.
What is this country coming to when illegal foreigner workers are ignored and encouraged to go on breaking the law, while citizens get slapped with hefty fines for not having the right paperwork?
Why are rules enforced for some people, but not others? Perhaps it has something to do with racism: Taxes and laws need not apply--to illegal immigrants, and politicians who adeptly play the race card.
Portland is no longer strictly Oregonians. They were flooded with Californians and now are extremely liberal. I lived in a small town outside of Portland for over 15 years. The town had about 7,000 people and very conservative. Californians moved in by the thousands, over the years, and the town grew to over 30,000. It is now very liberal and going to hell in a hand basket. Today, the town gets what they deserve. Higher taxes and less and less services.
I would like to start a sanctuary city for those afraid of physical harm, imprisonment and loss of property due to taxation imposed by the tyrannical empire of socialistic fascism
Why wouldn’t this be just as legal?

If the illegals are going to get all the perks/benefits (freebies) and the whiteys are going to get all the fines, penalties and taxes....let the illegals start footing the bill for the country for a change. Time for a tax revolt.

I beginning to think people never learn. They really don’t take the time to learn about anything and liberals know this. Conservatives haven’t figured it out yet and just keep doing what they do.
It’s like belonging to a church and many, many converts come in. The converts will eventually try to change the church to what they left (without realizing what they are doing) and the regular parishoners don’t see what is happening. Before you know it the whole thing is upside down. It would take massive changes to bring that church back to what it was. What happens? The original parishoner leaves.
It’s the same with our country. Socialists try and change everything and when they get what they want, they don’t like it because they won’t have the power they were promised.
