WaPo: Chemical dispersants used in gulf oil spill don't hurt seafood safety, FDA says
Washington Post ^ | August 6, 2010 | Lyndsey Layton

In a letter sent in response to questions from Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), the agency responsible for ensuring the safety of seafood said that chemicals used to break up the slicks are not as dangerous to human health as the oil itself.

FDA scientists do not believe that the chemicals accumulate significantly in the tissue of fish and shellfish, and so, even if the fish absorb the chemicals through gills or other ways, the fish do not retain them, Jeanne Ireland, FDA's assistant commissioner for legislation, wrote to Markey. That means they do not pass up the food chain to humans and are not considered a public health concern, according to the FDA.

BP sprayed 1.8 million gallons of the dispersant Corexit on the surface of the gulf and, for the first time, at the wellhead a mile underwater. Dispersants were last used July 19, four days after BP temporarily capped its leaking well.

Of course not, it is after all a Democrat administration that approved the use of the chemicals.

How about feeding the questionable seafood to the monkeys instead of giving them cocaine. Then if the monkeys are unscathed we can turn this stuff loose.

And where are the screaming greenies? Where are Rachel Carson’s (Silent Spring) soul sons and daughters? Mmm, I just love Corexit-stuffed oysters!

They had a reservation for 14 people at the Buenaventura Plaza restaurant, reportedly eating lobster with rice and oysters followed by a Spanish bread pudding called torrijas.

FDA: COREXIT = good, you must eat it in shellfish

VITAMINS = bad, controlled. To obtain them,
you and your children now need prescriptions
controlled, of course, by monthly federal melanin quotas.

The specific dispersants used in treating the current oil spill have been used for many years and previously approved by earlier administrations.

The same government that goes ballistic over CO2 would now have us believe 1.8 million gallons of a completely non-natural oil dispersant is not a problem.

If a person does the research, you would find that people don’t have any problem wearing clothes or eating off dishes that have been washed in exactly the same “chemicals” contained in the dispersents.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good histeria.

Meanwhile, I’ll continue to eat Gulf of Mexico Seafood as I have done for the last couple months (actually decades).

Same here. In fact, I have eaten several dozen Apalachicola oysters just in the last week.

The oil has broken up and sunk. It’s still there but the MSM is in full coverup mode for the Annointed One. The people of the gulf coast will be sacrificed to the god of political expedience, just like Kathleen Willy and Anita Broderick. It’s all for the cause.

I’m pretty sure the word has gotten out and around in the conservative circles that Gulf of Mexico seafood products will be of questionable safety for awhile.

I myself would keep at least a one year standoff distance.

I am so sorry for the millions losing money because Americans won’t buy Gulf seafood or the many that are not vacationing.

If there was a different President and a different and more open and trustworthy leadership in Washington instead of the make a lie a day and hope they buy it brigade then I would be tempted to jump at this news that the disaster is over.

But again its all in the political agenda and movement, and propping up ratings, whats next gold being found along the Gulf Coast?

I have an inner voice that protects me and my family, and its telling me in overtime that the oil spill chemicals are bad, very bad and what we are getting is the same as what Russian authorities did after Chernobyl, propaganda.
