DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – The United Arab Emirates said Friday that a Japanese oil tanker was hit by an explosives-laden dinghy in the Persian Gulf in what would be the first attack in the strategic waterway where millions of barrels of oil are transported each day.

The report — which came days after an al-Qaida-linked group claimed responsibility for attacking the vessel — raised fears about the vulnerability of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping lane for many petroleum exporting countries.

IS this a second attack on a Japanese vessel or a re-hash of the first threat?

They should build their own carriers. They know how to do that too.

Freak wave my butt. One question would be: Is the impact area a spot where one would aim in an attempt to do the most damage? Also, I see what appear to be scorch marks on the hull. I don’t see anything appearing to be scratch marks from a collison.

I think all tankers are double hulled. The one that knocked the Shit out of the cole had special high explosives given to the terrorists by russia. If you do not have high explosives you do not breach the hull of a oil tanker, think what kind you would need to rip a massive hole in the cole? Yeah russia needs a bitch slappin. (Of course they did the cole because they thought we wrecked the kursk only to find out it was an internal explosion.... oops)

This is usually not an area where you have a double hull. However, the plate thickness could be four or more times the thickness of the USS Cole.
