Obama booed lustily by Boy Scouts
American Thinker ^ | August 8, 2010 | Rick Moran

Posted on 08/08/2010 9:00:15 AM PDT by Zakeet

The president decided to pass up the Boy Scouts of America's 100th Anniversary in order to make an "historic" appearance on ABC's "The View."

Despite the fact that the Jamboree was just a hop, skip, and a jump from the White House at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia, the president sent a recorded message instead of showing up himself.

The reaction of the Boy Scouts to the video tells the story ...

Never was a Boy Scout myself but I understand that the Jamboree means a lot to those in attendance. And the Boy Scouts have meant a lot to America over these last 100 years, developing boys into fine men with a clear idea of right and wrong, and the satisfaction of accomplishing goals that point the way to a successful, happy life.

But I guess he would rather hobnob with celebrities like Whoppi Goldberg and Barbara Walters. I think it demonstrates where this president's priorities lie.

You may be right. When I thought about it and talked with my eagle hubby, he said he agreed with the boos. After all the President was not there, it was a video, so it wasn’t disrespectful.

I don’t know. I think I hate to see kids be booing a president, any president. Just like I don’t like to see them sassing parents, even unreasonable overbearing parents. ANd teachers, and policemen. I want kids to be always respectful of adults.

And when exceptions start to be made, I worry about how the kids interpret that. Seems to contribute to kids acting like boors. Mine were taught to always be polite no matter what UNLESS THEY WERE BEING ATTACKED OR THREATENED.

PERHAPS THESE KIDS KNOW WE ARE BEING ATTACKED AND THREATENED.

So you may be right in this case. But I worry.

..but did express their American First Amendment rights as free citizens by showing their disrespect for the MAN...there is a difference and you missed it.

And first and foremost, the first amendment is there to protect political free speech more than any other type of speech. The scouts were completely within their rights to boo, and it is commendable that they did. Nothing in the scout ideals says they should be gullible and naive. In fact, they're supposed to seek the truth, and the truth about Obama deserves some boos.

Obama is signing Eagle Scout certificates. There are boys in my son’s troop who have received their Eagle Scout certificates with Obama’s signature.

It is an urban myth/legend that Obama is not signing them.

No, not about the ‘booing’ , about ‘Obama’s not signing Eagle Scout certificates’

First time I’ve seen Lust and Boy Scouts in the same sentence. No accident I’m sure.

I think they should have been silent.

But boy scouts are not supposed to be disrespectful to the duly elected President even if he is a marxist shit.

Respect is earned.

0bama refuses to sign the document that is awarded to all new Eagle Scouts to certify their achievement. The Eagle Scout certificate has been signed by every sitting President since the inception of the BSA.

"Duly elected president"? hmm

I'm quite aware of the other meanings.

I'd just think that "heartily" or some such would have been a much better choice to avoid misinterpretation. Could be a subconscious choice or projection on the author's part.

My son is an Eagle Scout, and my husband and I are the Cub Scout leaders for our Hispanic congregation in our county.

I have seen first hand how Scouting helps boys grow to **men**. There is also a very **important** spiritual component to scouting.

Obama is signing Eagle Scout certificates.

Is it real or is it Autopen?

Speaking of which, scanning through newspaper web sites, I found very few MSM outlets which congratulated the Boy Scouts on their recent 100th birthday.

What has happened to our country?

I talked this morning with a scout from Arizona who was at the national jamboree...

He said that the Arizona scouts were especially forceful with their booing. Gee, I wonder why that was?

It's Autopen. Mine is signed by Richard Nixon, and it's either Autopin or printed.

There's a rumor that Gerald Ford insisted on signing each one personally. I don't know that it's true, but it wouldn't surprise me: Ford is the only Eagle Scout to become US President.

yeah, like she’s coming in out of the rain or heading out there... who knows with her. Actually, the only one who is dressed the most appropriately is Sherri Shepard. Her dress is very classic and respectful. Kudos to her.

his most heinous crime against the Boy Scouts is his REFUSAL to sign the document that is awarded to all new Eagle Scouts to certify their achievement

It is true that for the first fifteen months or so after President Obama was inaugurated, the White House never 'authorized' his signature on certificates for Eagle Scouts (or Quartermaster or, presumably, Silver Awards for Venturing).

That changed in late spring or early summer of this year when his signature was added. Scouts earning the rank of Eagle BEFORE that time had a blank above President Obama's signature.

However, he's NOT the first President to do this.

President Clinton didn't sign certificates for quite a while after taking office . . . and when he agreed to sign them, the White House 'requested' that the standard certificate be changed so that it could be signed not only by the President of the U.S. (the honorary President of the BSA), but also by Hillary Clinton. Yep.
