Cardinal attacks America's 'culture of vengeance' over freed Lockerbie bomber

Scotland's Roman Catholic leader attacked America's 'culture of vengeance' today as he defended the release of the Lockerbie bomber.

Cardinal Keith O'Brien said despite the 'gratuitous barbarity' of Abdelbaset al-Megrahi - who the Scottish Government freed last year on compassionate grounds - ministers were right 'to affirm our own humanity'.

He accused the American justice system of being based on 'vengeance and retribution' and said he was glad to live in a country where 'justice is tempered with mercy'.

Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill freed cancer-stricken Megrahi on August 20 last year. He was given three months to live, but is living with his family in the Libyan capital, Tripoli.

The decision caused uproar in the US and among many of the relatives of the 270 people he was convicted of killing in the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Megrahi

Writing in Scotland on Sunday newspaper, Cardinal O'Brien said: 'In Scotland over many years we have cultivated through our justice system what I hope can be described as a "culture of compassion".

'On the other hand, there still exists in many parts of the US, if not nationally, an attitude towards the concept of justice which can only be described as a 'culture of vengeance'.'

This Cardinal will be going to hell along with all those Muslims he is defending.

Obviously this Cardinal is not a member of that great church who proclaims “Islam is of the Devil”

I agree that Scottish ministers should not have to answer to the U.S. I would feel the same in a reverse scenario.

As to the rest the Cardinal should remember that the death penalty is not about vengeance it is about saying life should not be brutally taken by another. It says life does matter enough that we seek justice when it is lost through crime.

What an idiot! Talk to the women of Lockerbie, who carefully picked up all the clothing and suitcases left in the fields where the downed air craft crashed, laundered each piece, folded them and ironed them for the relatives of the victims to come and pick up.

The Scots culture of compassion and hospitality has existed for a thousand or more years.

Obrien is another leftist Roman Catholic idiot. His compassion does not extent to defend the West from Islamofascism, it only goes as far as aiding and abetting , and kissing the collective butts of the World Wide Caliphate Islamofascist movement. Neville Chamberlain would be proud of him. Winston Churchill would kick his Cardinal a$$ from Glasgow to Lockerbie and back!

WHAT A TWIT!

When it comes to opinions that matter to me, few are as close to the bottom of my priority list as those issued by a man in a dress wearing goofy hat.

Apparently, the “Cardinal” needs a good slap in the face to bring him back to reality, or, alternatively, a good old-fashioned exorcism (his mother sews socks in hell).

What is ‘seared’ into my memory from the Lockerbie bombing was the Syracuse University student’s mother arriving at JFK and hearing the news about her daughter’s fate. The poor woman fell to the floor in the middle of the terminal, crying ‘my baby, my baby.’ It still rips my heart to think about.

The good cardinal’s eternal reward should be to watch an endless repeat of that clip throughout eternity. Then he can preach compassion. The old bastard.

He [Cardinal Keith O'Brien] accused the American justice system of being based on 'vengeance and retribution' ...

Lets see, Your Eminence, you accuse us of 'vengeance and retribution' for merely asking for the ability to question the hows and whys of a mass murder terrorist being released to an adulatory regime where significant players stand to benefit on the basis of said release?

You sir, are a TWIT!

Would you have them remain silent on abortion, gay marriage, euthanasia, as well ? Can’t have it both ways, tho I DO think individual clergy should stay away from political pronouncements. Whatever each denomination wants as its position should be quite public; individual opinions can be expressed within the caucus that speaks for it.

This kind of rank stupidity by a religious ‘leader’ that tut-tuts at the premeditated murder of 259 innocent people and tries to characterize freeing the evil perpetrator on specious grounds as ‘compassion’ while figuratively wagging his bejeweled finger at the U.S. justice system is another reason the Muslims feel emboldened to keep infiltrating and attacking the west. Our abject weakness in the face of assault and wholly misplaced sympathy for evil men that kill in the name of ‘allah’. I believe this Scottish Cardinal is a disgrace to his religion. Unfortunately, he has lots of company, and they certainly aren’t all confined to the Catholic clergy.

Dear Cardinal,

It is not vengeance.

It is re-engaging in a war that ended with the Crusades, which the western world lost.

However, the demonic, satanic Islamonazis are not content with what they have, so they are trying to murder or convert everyone to their militant, totalitarian, and anti-Biblical “religion.”

You can wring your hands if you want.

The rest of us will fight these tyrants with every tool we have available.
