LAS VEGAS -- Family members and friends are planning a vigil to mark the one-month anniversary of the Las Vegas police slaying of a man in front of a membership warehouse store.

The 9 p.m. Tuesday event is part of an ongoing family campaign to highlight the July 10 death of 38-year-old Erik Scott by police just outside the Costco store in Summerlin.

Police say Scott had a gun and the three officers who shot Scott were responding to reports of a man ripping merchandise inside the store.

Family members say Scott had a concealed weapons permit, and police should release store surveillance video of the slaying. Police say it's possible no video exists. A coroner's inquest has been postponed, with officials planning up to three days of testimony from witnesses

They probably destroyed the store videos.

The “we do not know if a video exists” is to cover their asses if one should magically appear.

When I first read about this I got a mental picture of a guy loading a case of bottled water in his cart. As he picks it up the carton breaks open and bottles go everywhere. As he bends over grumbling to pick up the mess, he exposes his piece and some dweeb yells gun. He tells the dweeb to chill cause he has a permit to carry but the dweeb won’t say OK no problem. The rest is history.

I would call my congressman my senator and the FBI.

I think this is good advice depending on who our Congress-critters and Senators are. Mine are all useless and corrupt DemonRats. But I will call the FBI. Since these videos (which according to the cops may not exist) have already crossed state lines then the cover up is a Federal matter.

Thank you for those details, really makes me feel bad for that young man and his family. As usual, over reaction by a dweeb and paranoid police, I’ve seen a few of those.

In our area of Texas, as folks were gearing up with concealed handgun permits, deputies and small town cops were over-reacting to permitees who were advising that they had a permit (when stopped on minor traffic infractions) as required.

The permit holders were generally better trained in gun handling than many of the LEOs and kept a cool head under stressful situations as they were being yelled at and ordered to “get out! Stay put! Show your hands! Don’t show your hands! Get on the ground, the floorboard, lean on the trunk, the hood!” It was insane.

I drove up on one scene that three deputies were all hollering different orders at the same time. Never could figure out the need to be screaming at folks, a calm demeanor dampens a lot of iffy situations.

For those who aren’t aware, the Las Vegas PD has recently been caught manufacturing evidence, framing people, and lying to the public. The chief of police recently admitted it.

“Just over a year ago, the sheriff had to stand in front of the press and admit that much of what he had averred in a previous press conference about a high-speed collision that killed a Las Vegas police officer was completely false. It turned out that when officer James Manor plowed into a pickup that was attempting a left turn on Flamingo Road early one morning in May 2009, his flashing lights and sirens were not activated, the patrol car was traveling 109 mph in a 45 mph zone, the officer was not wearing a seat belt, and the man arrested and charged with driving under the influence and failing to yield to an emergency vehicle was not drunk and not at fault.

Late last month, the Metropolitan Police Department agreed to pay the falsely accused driver $120,000.”

In this case, the police lied about the dead officers actions, falsely claimed the driver the officer hit was drunk to avoid responsibility for the accident, and they arrested the man despite trying to save the officers life by putting out a fire in the vehicle after he himself was injured.

Has any officer involved in the cover-up or false charges been fired? No.

This is a department out of control and needs federal investigation IMHO.

Yep. The liberals in Hollywood are well known for their willingness to help the cops with their cover ups.

Yeah, since we all know that Hollywood NEVER glorifies cops with the endless stream of "police drama" tv shows and buddy cop films that populate the large and small screens alike.

Sadly, that's probably about the most realistic of all the cop shows on television right now. Most of the "police dramas" present cops as highly efficient, expertly trained, selfless crime-fighting superhumans.

In reality, they are much closer to the lazy buffoonish bureaucrats that populate any other government agency.

I am surprised there is nobody with an ounce of integrity who is in the know about this thing who will not come forth and admit what is going on. Hell, if I was one of the cops who did it I could not allow the cover up to continue. How do these people sleep at night?

I always heard...

What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.
