The man who helped launch the career of Kylie Minogue yesterday condemned modern pop culture for 'sexualising' youngsters.
Mike Stock, one third of the legendary pop factory Stock, Aitken and Waterman, said: 'The music industry has gone too far. It's not about me being old fashioned. It's about keeping values that are important in the modern world.
'These days you can't watch modern stars - like Britney Spears or Lady Gaga - with a two-year-old.
'Ninety-nine per cent of the charts is R 'n' B and 99 per cent of that is soft pornography.'
He continued: 'Kids are being forced to grow up too young. Look at the videos. I wouldn't necessarily want my young kids to watch them.
'I would certainly be embarrassed to sit there with my mum.'
Mr Stock believes that today's children are being 'sexualised' as a result of images put out by the pop industry of stars such as Lady Gaga.
He said: 'Mothers of young children are worried because you can't control the TV remote control.
'Before children even step into school, they have all these images - the pop videos and computer games like Grand Theft Auto - confronting them and the parents can't control it. Talking to mothers' groups, they were saying that even they have lost faith in brands like Disney.
'They were quite happy to put their kids in front of the telly to watch Hannah Montana but recently Miley Cyrus [who played Montana] has shown off her maturing body.'
'I'm being told by mothers of young kids they're worried by the pressure on them for their children to wear clothes and make-up at a young age.'

I choose not to use ad hominem attacks, personal attacks, or insults as you do. I’m diminishing nothing. I’m saying, as a parent, don’t let the tv remote or internet have control, and don’t use it as an excuse.
Did you also control all of your child’s friends?

Seems to me theres a middle ground between complete oppression and anarchy.

Of the people, for the people and by the people. It was written by the founders with the intent of a heavier emphasis on local control. Local leaders are responsive to voters and easier to send packing.
My point is that saying “I control my children” and letting the world go to he!! is self defeating. We need to be involved in our communities and stop leaving it to the radical leftists to set the agenda.

No, but I was there when they were around. When the neighbor kid showed up (regularly) with cans of soda pop and bags of candy, I said “no.” I also said “no” to lots of other activities they came up with. I was apparently the only parent in the neighborhood actually being a parent to their child, well, at least I was the only one that didn’t work and was home.
Your answer was “No”, and everything after the “but” was irrelevant (at least as far as this conversation is concerned). The point of the article is that that there are many things beyond the control of modern day parents, no matter how vigilant they are, and parents aren’t happy about it. It wasn’t a platform for you to tell us what a great parent you were. I’m sure you were, it just doesn’t mean a damn thing to me when it comes to protecting my child.

When did I say to let the world go to “he!!?” From the beginning, I’ve been trying to point out personal responsibility. Don’t blame your child’s outcome on having no control over the tv, and don’t use that as an excuse for more government intrusion. I’ve never said to be “hands off” and let the world go to “he!!”
Is turning off the tv or telling kids to go home “beyond the control of modern day parents?” It wasn’t for me.
I agree. I would suggest that those who disapprove of what’s portrayed on entertainment media exercise their economic clout to get it changed, rather than asking for government intervention. That’s my idea of a middle ground.
Can you post anything without bragging? Kids hear this stuff at school, on the bus, from their friends, during “kid’s shows” and a thousand other places that you don’t control.
How am I bragging? I’m not, and I’m not trying to. The article said:

I’ve been saying all along- yes you can. I took responsibility as a parent and said, “no,” you can’t watch that garbage on tv, home-schooled and ended up with a decent child. I guess I should be elated for being persecuted for trying to live a Godly life in Christ.
That’s awesome. Btw, I have no problem controlling what my kids hears or sees when he’s with me. I’m just not arrogant enough to think I can control everything he hears or sees during every minute of his day.

Nice slam. Did I ever say that I controlled everything my child saw or heard? I think I said that as a parent, I was there to point out good from evil, right from wrong.

Boycotts and vocal opposition are effective tools against certain corporations and media outlets. Unfortunately leaving the govt out of the picture will result in failure.
Using numerous other countries as a model we see how ignoring the legal system will eventually lead to the criminalization of opposition to the leftist agenda.
Speak out against the homosexual agenda in Canada, UK, and other parts of Europe and you can be arrested and jailed.

Again, my child was homeschooled. She didn’t learn this stuff from school, or from friends (who were screened) or from “kid’s shows” which I held the remote for. The thousand other places... well, I was “mom” 24/7 for the last 15 of her 15 years. When did “mom” or “parent” become an evil word? I feel like this article is an apologetic’s piece for working moms who feeling guilty. It’s really simple- if you’re blaming the tv, turn it off.

Hmmm...what would that be? I control the car going to the grocery store, the meals I put on the table, the car going to the mall (which wild horses couldn’t drag her to)...we seem to be living in diferent worlds.
The government has the ability to regulate obscenity over the airwaves via the FCC, and although I may disagree with their specific decisions I have no problem with the concept.
As far as the government getting involved with the content of cable TV, movies, music and music videos, etc.... absolutely not. Unacceptable.

Because good people are afraid or unwilling to speak out the only limitations in those arenas is for non-PC speech.
