Most U.S. voters believe the Democratic congressional agenda is extreme, while a plurality describe the Republican agenda as mainstream.
A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 57% of Likely U.S. Voters think the agenda of Democrats in Congress is extreme. Thirty-four percent (34%) say it is more accurate to describe the Democratic agenda as mainstream.
Voters are more narrowly divided when it comes to the agenda of congressional Republicans. Forty-five percent (45%) of voters view the GOP agenda as mainstream, but nearly as many (40%) say it’s more accurate to call it extreme. Fifteen percent (15%) are undecided.
The Political Class, however, has dramatically different views of the agendas of the two parties from what Mainstream voters think. Ninety-one percent (91%) of the Political Class say the Democratic agenda in Congress is in the mainstream, but 70% of Mainstream voters see that agenda as extreme.
While 53% of Mainstream voters see the Republican congressional agenda as in the mainstream, 81% of Political Class voters regard it as extreme.
Data released earlier showed that 67% of the Political Class believes the country is heading in the right direction. Among Mainstream voters, 84% say the nation has gotten off on the wrong track.
As most members of Congress head home to make the case for their reelection, only 16% of voters rate the overall performance of Congress as good or excellent. Most voters (56%) still give Congress poor marks for how it’s doing its job.
The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters U.S. Voters was conducted on August 9-10, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/- 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

Is this the same 57% that elected our socialist leadership?
Only 57%? My word, one would think that number would be well beyond 60%.
But then, that’s me.
I find it interesting that more and more Democrats are showing their disappointment in the President and Democrats in Washington. They are finding out what Conservatives were saying prior to the election is true. This Administration can’t be trusted and Democrats are turning against it.
Opps, that is about the same percent, or thereabout, that were against the Stimulus, ObamaCare, TARP, the GM and Chrysler bailouts, etc. =.=
That's what I thought when Reagan beat Carter in '80, when the GOP took over Congress in '92 but I have less faith now. There's always a new crop mushy-headed kids coming out of the schools who think there's something new and exciting about Keynesian economics and think that passivity and peace have never really been tried before and that the unions have the best interests of the American people in their hearts. They'll jump on board as soon as the next pretty-boy or girl comes along and says it's moral to share someone else's wealth. And they'll once again condemn anyone who says it ain't so by calling them greedy bigots. Education is really important, too important to be left in the hands of the public schools, television and Hollywood.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows that 24% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as president. Forty-six percent (46%) Strongly Disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -22 (see trends).

Then we can take the 57%, divide it into two or more parts, and hand it back to the dems.
Ciiting Perot (1992 Potus) and Tancredo (2010 Gov.) as examples.
