True Americans could give a hoot about what color your skin is! All we care about is that you support FREEDOM and LIBERTY and have a sense of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!

Right on. THAT is the path to individual and collective freedom.

Race identification is a devious trap, promoted by those whose sole aim is to divide and conquer the American people. It's suicidal to fall for it.

I hope to look back at the current monolithic black support of the Democrat party as a distant memory.

That might be a good Free Republic activism project, to start a Conservative Minority Caucus that would demonstrate to the media and the rest of status-quo liberals that more and more blacks are leaving the plantation, and that not all hispanics blindly follow the neo-socialist doctrines of the New World Order. I know Jesse Lee Peterson of B.O.N.D. is a staunch conservative, as are Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, Herman Cain and others. There are plenty of good examples. They just need a groundswell of popular support to make this group into a force for TRUE advancement, not "business as usual." And conservatives need to get better at reaching out to the hispanic community too, to demonstrate that the values of conservatism are much more closely aligned with their own than are those of the amoral, parasite Left.

Sounds like the nucleus of a powerful movement. If a group like this could get together and present a counter to the Jessuh’s, Rev’n Al’s, and Calypso Looeys, while it wouldn’t change the media’s minds, it might show honest, decent blacks and hispanics that there are alternatives to the Three Rev’s Road Show.

Well...no, my name's not there, but I certainly stand firmly with those august conservatives. I'm Ronnie Bell of Texas.

Thank you for thinking so highly of me. Much appreciated.

Folks at my local Tea Party have been nudging me for quite some time to take a more activist role in taking the conservative message to the black community.

It's a tall order for someone with four kids and a teetering business to contemplate. I sometimes feel that if I go for it, I'll have to "go all in", in order to be effective. I don't really know what that would mean for my family, though. Currently, I'm humping my butt every day just to keep a roof over their heads. It's a big decision, that can't be half-assed, if I'm going to do it right.

I don't know. Perhaps I'll pull in some sponsorship of some kind that will make it possible for me.

J.C. Watts was on my list but he went wobbly when Obama ran for President. I’ll put him back on if you can provide a link to confirm that he’s solid!

(There are many “maybe’s” that aren’t listed.)

I know what you mean but I think the beauty and power of the spontaneous and truly grass-roots Tea Party movement is that regular people are doing small things and having a BIG impact.

It's enough and it's effective to simply do what little you can. We're not alone. We are many. E Pluribus Unum!

Sounds like the nucleus of a powerful movement.

I think so, too. These wonderful, inspiring men and women are a potent statement against those who try to stereotype conservatism. I just love them all (and as an atypical conservative, I identify with them very much and find camaraderie among them.)

That is a poetic and powerful way to say that we are all much bigger than we sometimes imagine.

Thank you. I'll keep those thoughts up front, while I consider how best to contribute to the cause.

I agree with fullchroma that you do what you can. Your family and responsibilities have to come first (another sentiment that distinguishes conservatives from liberals). But ideas — especially strong, passionate ideas backed by a sense of righteousness and determination — tend to translate into realities. Maybe the time isn’t right for you to command an army yet, but maybe is IS right for you to form a band of like minds who can become more powerful than the sum of the parts.

Explore. Challenge. And keep us posted.

Hmmm....maybe some sort of black Tea Partier's alliance. Dunno. It's a thought, but creating any race-based alliance goes against the grain for me. I guess that's a personal issue, but it's what's kept me from joining any of the many black conservative/Republican groups that already exist.

It's something I've got to get my wits around. How can I help other blacks find their way home to conservatism without it being about race? I haven't quite figured out how to do that.

If I get up in front of a bunch of black people and start talking about conservative principles, I don't want them to see a black man. I just want them to see an American. The concepts and ideals are paramount - not the skin color of the messenger.

Like I said, I've got something of a personal integrity button on it.
