It sounds like an April Fool's joke, but it isn't: A doctor from Imperial College London whose study was published in the American Journal of Cardiology has proclaimed that people who eat burgers and milkshakes at fast food restaurants should be given free statin drugs (like ketchup packets) to counteract the cholesterol effects of eating burgers.
"Fast food outlets could provide statin drugs free of charge," says Dr. Darrel Francis, lead author of study, who goes on to complain that statin drugs shouldn't be prescription drugs at all. People should be able to get them as easily as asking for a packet of ketchup: "It makes sense to make risk-reducing supplements available just as easily as the unhealthy condiments that are provided free of charge," Francis says, calling statins a "supplement" instead of a drug. Yeah, as if it were a nutrient or something.

I agree.............I hate paying for mine.............
LOL, Bacon double cheeseburger, double statin please. Oh, and triple the mayo, I mean what the heck, it’s got the statin in there baby !!
Statins are drugs and, therefore, should be regulated by the FDA.
Only if the IDIOT DOctor PAYS for the “free” drugs.
He’ll sing another tune then.
Before anyone gets too anxious to start popping statins like aspirin, check out this website. It might make you think twice.

Would you like your statin served in the side?...............
Get rid of the FDA............
Yes, and never mind the side effects of statin drugs, like, oh say, neuropathy and kidney failure.
Agreed, get the proper magnesium and you won’t need statin’s at all ...
I don’t know how many people there are like me—but I am allergic to most, if not all statins.............
Come to my house and have a glass of tap water - all the magnesium you need.
The stuff is about an inch deep in the bottom of our pool.
Might want to add adult diapers to that as well.
Who will pay the law suits for those people whose livers are damaged by the Statins?
A double-double at Whataburger would then cost about $35.
Nope.
I second the motion. The Fraud and Drug Administration is one of the worst agencies in Washington ... in close competition with the SEC for the title.
Just wondering why liberals want unrestrained sex, free condoms, free treatment for aids, free abortion, but want to ban cigarettes, twinkies and hamburgers.
Statins can produce rare but serious side effects, particularly rhabdomyolysis. So, some monitoring is highly desirable. Whether or not you should just warn people and make available a liver enzyme test kit over the counter with the statins is a whole other topic for conversation.
A doctor advocating prescription drugs become non-prescription? His little comrades won’t like HIM, will they? We only HAVE prescription medications so doctors can charge for an office visit!
