Obama defends ground zero mosque plans

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Friday endorsed plans for a Muslim mosque two blocks from ground zero in New York City, declaring that "Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country."

In remarks prepared for delivery at a White House dinner celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, Obama said all Americans have the right to worship as they choose.

"That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances, Obama said. "This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakeable."

The Muslim countries,overall, are on a path do drive Christians and Christian Churches out of their countries. I agree we should set an example, but we should also set some limits.
These Mosque’s are more than places of worship. They are hot beds of political activity sponsored by one or more countries. They don’t deserve the same status as a Christian Church or a Jewish Temple.

Actually, your analogy doesn't work for several reasons, but here are two: The islam'ickcs' want the Mosque as a symbol of their victory in slaughtering a few thousand infidels;
A Japanese shrine would most likey be to honor those for whom the Japanese feel shame at having killed in a surprise attack

In October, Pope Benedict XVI is having a synod on what he called the “urgent” plight of Christian minorities in the Middle East. President Obama and Mayor Bloomberg need to go there, to present their lectures on tolerance and religious freedom to the representatives of Muslim countries who will be attending, instead of preaching to the choir (i.e., the American people).
