Obama's Endorsement Of Mosque At Ground Zero An Insult To All Americans
America Talks ^ | 8/15/10 | David Zublick

From the beginning, there has been speculation that Barack Obama has been an apologist for the Islamic world. His campaign rhetoric during the 2008 presidential campaign in which he indicated that he would sit down with leaders of Islamic nations such as Iran without precondition drew the ire of many who viewed him as soft on the war on terror.

Then, once in office, the dynamics of our battle with the forces of Islamic extremism took an even darker turn when the terms used to describe the conflict were changed. No longer were we fighting a war on terror. We were now involved in an "overseas contingency operation", with terrorist attackes now labeled as "man-made disasters".

Obama's wavering support for Israel in the wake of credible threats from Iran and the Palestinians against this great nation gave many Americans pause, as they wondered how this administration could have abandoned our ally in favor of nations that would like to see Israel wiped off the face of the planet Earth.

The latest salvo to be fired across the bow of patriotic Americans still hurting from the horrible attacks of September 11th, 2001 is this president's support for the mosque being planned near Ground Zero. His endorsement of this abomination, an insult to the collective conscience of our country, is both stunning and quite telling.

The reaction to Obama's nod of approval has come swiftly.

Senator John Cornyn R-Texas, said "I think it does speak to the lack of connection between the administration and Washington and folks inside the Beltway and mainstream America. And I think this is what aggravates people so much.Whether you're connected with people, whether you're listening or whether you're lecturing to them, I think this is sort of the dichotomy that people sense, that they're being lectured to, not listened to, and I think that's the reason why a lot of people are very upset with Washington".

Representative Peter King, R-N.Y. said in a written statement that the president is "wrong".

"It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of ground zero", King said. "While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque, they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who have suffered so much," he said. "The right and moral thing for President Obama to have done was to urge Muslim leaders to respect the families of those who died and move their mosque away from ground zero. Unfortunately, the president caved into political correctness".

Obama has said that if all local laws and ordinances are followed, the right to build the mosque should not be infringed.

But House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said in a written statement, "The fact that someone has the right to do something doesn't necessarily make it the right thing to do. That is the essence of tolerance, peace and understanding. This is not an issue of law, whether religious freedom or local zoning. This is a basic issue of respect of a tragic moment in our history".

Adding even more insult to the American people, are plans to dedicate the mosque on the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks.

Questions have been raised about where the money to build this $100 million dollar monstrosity.

Claudia Rosett of the Weekly Standard has reported that the State Department is sponsoring a junket to the Middle East, supposedly to "help people overseas understand our society". However, is this really not an opportunity for Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf to raise the capital to make this mosque and Islamic cultural center a reality?

Follow the money.

Democrats have been left reeling from Obama's comments, especially in an contentious midterm election year, in which they had hoped to be discussing issues such as Social Security.

The American people are very tolerant of religious freedoms, as they should be. And if all of the "i"s are dotted and the "t"s crossed, then legally, the Imams have the legal right to build this mosque on private property, even in the shadows of hallowed ground.

But having the legal right to build it, and the common sense to make a decision sensitive to the families and friends who lost loved ones on 9-11 are two completely different things.

This president could have used his powers to persuade the Imams to build this mosque somewhere else. Obama chose through his endorsement, however, to slap the face of the American people. He further insulted them by implying that the opposition to it is based solely on an emotional trauma left over from the 9-11, and not on rational thinking by a patriotic electorate sick and tired of seeing their commander-in-chief bowing to the very people who would do us harm at the earliest opportunity.

For that, Obama should be ashamed of himself.

“Obama is an insult to all Americans.”

All REAL Americans.

Screw the hyphenated “Americans”, they really don’t count.

Perhaps Obama fails to understand that on 9/11/2001, Muslims were indeed practicing their religion.

Our Constitution was made only for a Moral people. It is totally inadequate to govern any other. — John Adams.

Muslims are not moral people. They are murdering fascists.

We should not handicap ourselves to rules they do not obey.

It is lose lose.

If we follow the Bill of rights and apply it to them, they will use it to destroy US and the bill of rights.

If we break it ourselves, undermine it ourselves, we may survive and we can have a chance to put it back.

It is a catch “21”...

As a tribute to the late Senator Byrd, lets have an “eternal flame cross” on the front lawn of the White Crib? Would that be out of line? Would that offend anyone?

He isn’t and never will be. He is nothing but soiled dirt

No offense meant

.
By extension of the above saying, it is suicidal to give every citizen one vote. There are those who, after deep consideration, will cast their votes for the betterment of American society and then there are those who will vote to satisfy their own selfish material wants.

The latter group will always be triumphant. That’s how socialism came to be.

The Cordoba House mosque is not a local issue, all of America was attacked on 9-11-01, but 0bummer should have stayed out of it and let it play out on lower levels. He brought himself and the Presidency into it and he can’t undo that now. He picked the wrong side to boot.

It was only land owners and men once upon a time. I'd also go for a Robert A. Heinlein type of Subject/Citizenry too.

Maybe we will get a chance to do it over and better... but I doubt it.
