It was on every cable news channel this morning so unless people just aren’t paying attention, they know.
People in Peoria and Topeka know more than you seem to think. Try reading a poll and stop being so condescending.
It just shows how weak this guy is. Reagan would have said ‘it’s legal but it is innappropriate. Next question.’
Obama is a politically correct manager, not a leader. Let’s hope that a leader emerges in this country in then next couple of years. It’s been a long time coming...
What is sad and disgusting is how every MSM institution is so slanted that they frame the issue as “constitutional rights.” I don’t think anyone has said that a property owner does not have the right to build whatever they want on their property. The issue is one of judgment - is it proper and decent to build a mosque so close to the sight of the worst terrorist act in history that was perpetrated by islamo-fascists? You would think even the moderate Muslim community (is that an oxymoron?) would see the foolishness in this - reminding people every day of what their brothers did in the name of islam.
Ironic that the MSM has never gone out to protect private property rights in any other context, poor Sharon Kelo...
Another question to ask the media: If Islam is so tolerant, why don’t we petition the Saudi government to build churches in Mecca and Medina? Or for that matter to even permit non-Muslims to visit these cities? The hypocrisy is unbelievable.
Pretty much the same as it is whenever they see a crèche.
I drew the names of cities off the top of my head. I was simply writing a sentence. Actually what I meant to say was, "I wonder when ozzymandus will come on this thread and show what an obnoxious jerk he is?"
Thanks for letting me know.
Who would have thought we would ever get to this point.
Re #2:
That is a great analogy!
I’ve been wondering the same thing. My closest friend (who is always politically and intellectually on top of everything) was not even aware of Larry Sinclair’s assertions, the offing of Donald Young, and the existence of Man’s Country. Stuff that is old news here on FR sometimes is totally off the radar of even the average conservative.
They would be against it, on the grounds that it was insensitive, and that Aryan Nation wasn't a religious organization protected by the First Amendment. I respond that the Ground Zero mosque is insensitive, and Islam is not just a religion.
A.W., I understood your allusion perfectly. “Peoria” is often used as a synonym for middle America, where decency and logic still count for something. It’s getting where a person can’t write ANYTHING on FR without having to go over it with a magnifying glass lest someone nitpick it to death.
I don't see that as "condescending", and it is difficult to trust most polls.
We are something of an echo-chamber where we are all VERY interested in certain topics. Sometimes it is difficult to assess what is important to people who are not FReeping everyday.
Thank you for that!
Actually I was going to leave it at “Peoria” then I realized Peoria was in Illinois and in the minds of many people is no longer (because of Obama) representative of “middle America” so I threw Topeka on top of it. Anyway I’m digressing but thanks again for your astute comment.
I seem to remember that usage dates back to the Nixon Administration. Some policy question would come up, and somebody would worry how the NYT or WaPo would slice them up over it, and the answer would be, "Don't worry, it'll play in Peoria", meaning, the Silent Majority would like it even if the limousine libs didn't.
Peoria thus got tagged as the archetypal Middle American city, even though it was really Muncie, IN, that was actually defined as such.
You’re welcome, condescending snob. Do you really think people who watch the news don’t know about this? It’s even on the leftist channels.
