Multiple Shootings Reported In Collin County (Plano, Allen, Mckinney, Texas)
CBS11TV ^ | 08/17/2010

Posted on 08/17/2010 8:54:59 AM PDT by devane617

There have been at least two separate shootings in Collin County.

One shooting occurred at Collin County Community College on the Central Park Campus on Central Expressway.

Students were made aware of the shooting just after 8 a.m. when the campus was placed on lockdown. The text alerts sent out by the college read, "CougarAlert: Shots fired @ Central Park Campus. Campus on lockdown. Cops on scene."

No injuries have been reported from the campus.

At some point a man allegedly pulled up at the McKinney Police Department in a pickup truck loaded with ammunition and began shooting. Police returned fire and it is believed the suspect was shot and killed behind the police station.

Anna Folmsbee, with the City of McKinney, spoke with CBS 11 News by phone and said, "There is one suspect that has been confirmed dead."

Somewhere during the course of events, a pickup truck in the police parking lot apparently caught fire. Chopper 11 shot video over the scene that showed the truck, with an attached trailer loaded with some type of material with a soil-like consistency, covered in foam and water. Several fire engines were parked nearby.

There are reports that there is another shooter still on the loose, but that has not been confirmed.

There are some teachers and staff, no students, at several McKinney Independent School District schools, but those schools have not been placed on lockdown.

CBS 11 News has crews on the ground and Chopper 11 is in the air to bring the latest developments in this breaking news story.

Suicide by cop.

Only explanation that as to why he would be the only one dead.

An idiot pulled up to a police station in Texas and opened fire at them?

I blame Hollywood, some idiots who watch what comes out of there actually believe they can live through a shootout like that.

I bet the idiot even made plans for where he would stop for lunch after it was over.

My son lives in Plano, I always hate to see these kind of stories in that part of the world.

Google maps points here:

2200 University Drive, McKinney, TX

If the address is correct, it appears that's actually a building on the edge of the CCCC campus. I don't see any police cars in the lot, though.

He was driving a pickup truck, pulling a trailer that appeared to be loaded with soil. Looks like any landscape truck you see hundreds of time a day in this area.

Definitely suicide by cop. That would be the only explanation for opening fire at a police station. Obviously not a good shooter either (and thankfully so).

If the address is correct, it appears that's actually a building on the edge of the CCCC campus.

Looking at the Google street view, it looks a lot like a fire station. The image is poor, but one of several large overhead doors are open, and there appears to be an ambulance in it.

Maybe the building is shared with the police?

Those satellite maps are not always the most current. Google still shows my house as a vacant lot and I've lived here for 5 years.

Police have schedule a conference at 11:30.

THey also make mistakes. Our old address is on the opposite corner of the block according to google. AND this summer, when we were putting together our class reunion they had the address for the host hotel wrong (actually in the wrong town!). I contacted them a couple of times but I don’t think they ever got it corrected (altho they did contact me back and appear to try). So, I don’t always count on them.

Obviously not a good shooter either (and thankfully so).

I don’t think he intended to shoot a cop.

If he did he could wait in a police parking lot until one got close enough that he could not miss. He should have been within less than 25 yards of a cop easily before firing with only minimal patients.

If he has a truck load of guns certainly one would be a rifle that would easily penetrate police body armor at parking lot ranges. If he didn’t make a kill he didn’t want to kill.

No I think he wanted to die and did not have the guts to pull the trigger on himself or wanted the post mortem notoriety of a public death. Probably both.
