There have been at least two separate shootings in Collin County.
One shooting occurred at Collin County Community College on the Central Park Campus on Central Expressway.
Students were made aware of the shooting just after 8 a.m. when the campus was placed on lockdown. The text alerts sent out by the college read, "CougarAlert: Shots fired @ Central Park Campus. Campus on lockdown. Cops on scene."
No injuries have been reported from the campus.
At some point a man allegedly pulled up at the McKinney Police Department in a pickup truck loaded with ammunition and began shooting. Police returned fire and it is believed the suspect was shot and killed behind the police station.
Anna Folmsbee, with the City of McKinney, spoke with CBS 11 News by phone and said, "There is one suspect that has been confirmed dead."
Somewhere during the course of events, a pickup truck in the police parking lot apparently caught fire. Chopper 11 shot video over the scene that showed the truck, with an attached trailer loaded with some type of material with a soil-like consistency, covered in foam and water. Several fire engines were parked nearby.
There are reports that there is another shooter still on the loose, but that has not been confirmed.
There are some teachers and staff, no students, at several McKinney Independent School District schools, but those schools have not been placed on lockdown.
CBS 11 News has crews on the ground and Chopper 11 is in the air to bring the latest developments in this breaking news story.
Yikes..again..what is with these Amish people
Google still shows my house as a vacant lot and I’ve lived here for 5 years.”
Lucky you. Mine is shown in full detail with my car parked outside and with a little bit of strain you can see my tag # and my “Close the Border” bumper sticker.
Read an "eyewitness" account a moment ago (not sure how credible) that said he parked the truck, set it on fire, walked over near the CCC campus and opened fire on the police station and any police cars nearby ... gun jammed ... started running from cops, put a handgun under his chin and pulled the trigger.
I guess we'll get a complete, detailed story in a day or two.
If you search on Google Maps for "Police in McKinney, TX", you'll get a listing at 2200 Taylor Burk Drive, which matches the location noted by the newspaper.
If you zoom in, there is a vacant lot at that location. However, if you look just east on that road, there's a building due north of the CCCC campus.
THAT looks like a police station. I believe I can see a row of police cars (white, with the light bars on top) parked on the north side of the building.

August 17, 2010 12:05 p.m. McKinney police are currently debriefing about the details behind a shooting that took place at the McKinney Police Department in McKinney, near the Central Park Campus, 2200 W. University Drive, shortly after 9 a.m. today. A follow-up press conference is scheduled for 4 p.m. to discuss.
A gunman in a Ford pickup truck parked his vehicle, loaded with ammunition, in front of the McKinney Police Department before opening fire. Gunfire was exchanged between the shooter and the McKinney police.
It is confirmed that the gunman is dead. However, the cause of his death is uncertain.
Bullets from the shooting entered a Central Park Campus building. No students, faculty or staff were injured.
As a precaution, the Central Park Campus and the city of McKinney were put on lockdown immediately and students were notified through the colleges emergency alert system.
The lockdown has been lifted, and the city declared the scene secure and has been transitioned into a crime scene. Although the lockdown is lifted, students are not allowed on the campus.

Thanks for the update.
Interesting
white male, 29 yo, patrick sharpe, looks like he had a bomb set to go off in the back of the truck/trailer.
“He had a plan. He was executing his plan,” McKinney Police Chief Doug Kowalski said at an afternoon news conference at which he confirmed Sharp's identity and talked about the unusual nature of the attack.
Kowalski said more than 100 shell casings were found in the area, and 23 windows were broken in the building. Officers returned fire, and Sharp was killed 50 to 200 yards south of the police station. It was unclear whether he was shot by police or died from a self-inflicted wound.
It looks like this was a well liked, hard working guy. I will be interested to see what pushed him over the line.
