Domino's Pizza Forced to Axe Halal Menu After Poor Sales

Domino's Pizza pioneered a halal-only menu but has had to ditch the idea because of poor sales.

Three of the pizza chain's branches banned pork and brought in meats satisfying Islamic laws 18 months ago but have reverted to their usual menu, including the meateor, pepperoni and Hawaiian.

The pilot ‘hasn’t had the impact expected and the company has reluctantly decided to return to a conventional Domino’s menu’, it said in a letter to customers. ‘It did seem pretty unfair on non-Muslim pizza lovers,’ said pizza fan Chris Yates, 31.

‘It was as if I wasn’t allowed ham or pork on my pizza in case I offended someone.’

The scheme ran in Birmingham, Bradford and Blackburn.

We have several pizza shops around here that meet the Halal standards and also meet the demands of non-Moslems for proper taste by simply contracting with their meat suppliers for TURKEY based products.

That'll also draw in most of the Hindus as well.

I suspect simply eliminating pork isn't the way to go ~ people want the taste of sausage.

Kind of a pity. IMHO halal meats taste better, though there seems to be no such thing as "halal pork."

Turkey bacon is one thing, but a properly spiced turkey salami is something else, and in the hands of someone who knows something about "tuning" spices, you can't tell the difference.

I dunno. Uncle Sam sent me to Kuwait for a deployment a few years back. Some civilian friends had access to a vehicle and reason to go downtown, and brought back Pizza Hut pizzas. They were all halal (they spell kosher funny in Arabic, I guess). Anyway, they were mighty good pizzas. Some of the best I’ve had anywhere. It was probably the cheese, but whatever, they were really good.

Bet there’s more to this story.
