Dr. Laura Schlessinger announced tonight she is ending her radio show, a week after she broadcast a five-minute-long rant in which she used the N-word 11 times.
Schlessinger said on "Larry King Live" tonight that she has decided "not to do radio anymore" so she can say the things she wants to say.
"The reason is, I want to regain my First Amendment rights," she said. "I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry, some special interest group deciding this is the time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates, attack sponsors. I'm sort of done with that."
She told King she will not renew her contract, which expires at the end of the year. She said she told her bosses 10 minutes before she went on the air.
She was trying to make a philosophical point, she said, but added, "I didn't help her [the caller] by making that point."

I listened for a little while but also found it boring. It was basically the same show every day. The same stupid people calling in making the same stupid mistakes with the same stupid problems.
I always tune to something else when she comes on. No big deal.
My Prediction: Obama will use the “Internet Turn Off Switch” in October, and this will be the “October Surprise”.
Good deal, hop on your broom Laura and fly like a winged monkey. Then you can say the n-word all you want and no one will care. Just like now.
Liberals may be thrilled for now, but once Dr. Laura is free from the restraints put on her, LOOK OUT. Look for her to be much more political in her public appearances.
It's the last Really Bad Word. Maybe whites should start getting offended whenever blacks use the word "cracker"--even when referring to saltines. After all, the way they use it to refer to white people is meant to be offensive. So they should not be allowed to use the word at all. Only whites can say, "I had cheese and crackers for lunch." Blacks must use a different word. Better yet, they ca't even EAT crackers. It's racist.
Just illustrating absurdity by being absurd.
Maybe, but we are better armed than Dr. Laura. At least the FReepers I know personally are. Course I hang with the gun nuts, cause I are one.
Sounds more like her company was being threatened and she helped them by taking the bullet.

Has she even read the First Amendment? No rights were taken from her, no law was passed to restrict her.
I tried listening to Dr. Laura a few years ago, and I decided that anyone with an ounce of commonsense could do what she did. The people that called into her show were pathetic. It is the same with Dr. Phil. Do people actually have to go to school for this?
Among talk shows she was rated #5 in audience (Behind Rush, Glenn Beck, Hannity, Michael Savage, I think I have the order correct...) So, even if she was a distant 5th - she had to be knocking down some major $. And she appears to be ripe for retirement, physically. So, go for it!
Unfortunately, phrases like "What's up my negro?" don't quite have the same pizazz but should still earn you a fist bump or two.
I liked her. The lady doesn’t take crap from anyone.

I had liberal relatives over at the house last week and was bombarded with CNN for my guests - it was a constant drone of that “N-word” Dr Laura phone call for two days straight.
She may have set the fire but CNN stoked the flames.
And then she goes on King? pfftt....

When people called, they were instructed to phrase their question in a way that allowed her to misunderstand and get off on a tangent. I heard one call that had nothing to do with the callers weight, but Dr. Laura’s vein of questioning took her to find out that the caller was overweight, and Dr. Laura was very rude and disrespectful to the woman because of it. By the time the poor caller finally got a chance to ask her question, she had been humiliated.

More double standard. Only liberals and dems can say anything without any retribution. My only thought is if you listened to Dr. Laura for a month you heard every show. The next month the names are changed but the same problems and issues are there. Most people know what that right answer is but they want to fight and argue and somehow justify their behavior.
Good riddance. Dr. Laura was one of the meanest, most obnoxious voices on radio, as far as I’m concerned.
Her bedside manner could drive any borderline suicidal person to pull the trigger.
I won’t miss her.
I honestly don’t know. It was around 10 years ago and I never listened to her after that.
I suppose her rant isn’t available?
Her program never held any interest for me and the intro music was an immediate turn-off.
