NEAR THE IRAQ-KUWAIT BORDER The last U.S. combat troops were crossing the border into Kuwait on Thursday morning, bringing to a close the active combat phase of a 7½-year war that overthrew the dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein, forever defined the presidency of George W. Bush and left more than 4,400 American service members and tens of thousands of Iraqis dead.
The final convoy of the Armys 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, based at Fort Lewis, Wash., were about to enter Kuwait shortly after 1:30 a.m. (6:30 p.m. Wednesday ET), carrying the last of the 14,000 U.S. combat forces in Iraq, said NBCs Richard Engel, who has been traveling with the brigade as it moved out this week.
We won! We won! Its over! We brought democracy to Iraq! a soldier shouted as fellow soldiers celebrated their arrival in Kuwait this week.

Any thinking person can deduce Obama is a Muslim sympathizer. His support of building a mosque virtually on the 9-11 site is only the latest evidence. His plan is to “bring the war home” to Americans. There will be deaths on both sides as the jihadists move their operations stateside. Instead of taking the conflict to them, his plan is to move it here. IMHO.
Hussein’s only experiance is being a community activist and it shows every day. Please come 1/20/2013. Please.
The jobs of president is way above Huss4ein’s head. He wasn’t even qualified to be in the senate. We must get him out of office and send him back to community organizing.
N0bama is a wuss and that’s being generous.
It's pure semantics that left wing governments use to cover up the fact that they have realised that it would be suicide to truly withdraw before the job is done. The US is just catching up with others like Britain and Australia which have already played this definition game.
Does this mean the war is “officially over” now, and we can have victory parades for troops coming home?
Well my son is boots on the ground and he’s not leaving. Interesting.
how much money is Iraq
costing us each year?
The last U.S. combat troops were crossing the border into Kuwait on Thursday morning, bringing to a close the active combat phase of a 7 1/2-year war that overthrew the dictatorial regime of Saddam Hussein, forever defined the presidency of George W. Bush and left more than 4,400 American service members and tens of thousands of Iraqis dead.Wait a second here -- I thought it was 10s of 1000s of Americans maimed, blinded, crippled, and killed, and a couple of billion Iraqis murdered by The Occupation...
“This is stupidity. We are abandoning an ally. We are leaving millions of innocents to the terrorists.”
Sorry but we can’t be there forever, money is just one issue. Choose another Saddam that isn’t dumb enough to piss us off and call it a win!
msnbc.com reporting that civilian contractors will be taking over with security forces in lieu of soldiers. The prediction at the end of the article is that many thousands of soldiers will be subsequently sent back when this effort isn’t enough.
I completely agree that o’s plan is to move the conflict here. That will enable his civilian security forces, no doubt in training as I type.
Looks like a real pacifist there ;-).
Speaking of Australia, I thought at first that the headline said, “Wombat Troops.”
“This is part of the plan, put in place by President Bush. Obama will lie and take credit for the ‘end’ of the war, but he has done nothing.”
Absolutely...and the MSM is giving credit to Obama.
Also, look at this statement...
“Seven years and five months after the U.S.-led invasion, the last American combat brigade was leaving Iraq, well ahead of President Barack Obama’s Aug. 31 deadline for ending U.S. combat operations there.”
...”well ahead”...
What...a week ahead? lol
“Iraqi foces are gonna play a little more hardball with the terrorists...weve given them the opportunity to have a free country, now they have to earn it..”
I think it’ll be better since the Iraqis aren’t bound by PC or brainless bureaucrats who want to avoid ‘antagonizing’ the terrorists. I bet that we will end up hearing of more kills by Iraqi forces from blogs, certainly not from the MSM.
I hope though, that since they want the troops back SO BADLY, that the hippies don’t spit on them.
Wait a second--when one ship had a "Mission Accomplished" banner that indeed applied to that ship, it was latched onto a an effective example of Bush lies, distortion, disconnect, etc.
That headline sure implies that ALL American forces are now out of Iraq.
We’ll be back to save Iraq from Iran and Turkey
