Oy Vey, Obama (Jews leaving Democratic party)
New York Times ^ | August 20, 2010 | Charles M. Blow

Is President Obama good for the Jews? For more and more Jewish-Americans, the answer is no.

In a Pew Research Center report issued on Thursday and entitled “Growing Number of Americans Say Obama Is a Muslim” (tragic in its own right), there was another bit of bad news for Obama: the number of Jews who identify as Republican or as independents who lean Republican has increased by more than half since the year he was elected. At 33 percent it now stands at the highest level since the data have been kept. In 2008, the ratio of Democratic Jews to Republican Jews was far more than three to one. Now it’s less than two to one.

This is no doubt a reaction, at least in part, to the Obama administration having taken a hard rhetorical stance with Israel, while taking “special time and care on our relationship with the Muslim world,” as Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, put it in June. If that sounds like courtship, it is.

(It should be noted that the Pew poll was taken before Obama’s bold support for the right of Muslims to build a community center and mosque a few blocks north of ground zero.)

Some of the president’s most ardent critics and some of Israel’s staunchest American defenders — two groups that are by no means mutually exclusive — have seized on what they see as the administration’s unfair and unbalanced treatment of Israel and have taken their denunciations to the extremes.

In September 2009, Obama went before the United Nations and declared, “America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.”

Yes Indeedee
It very well could mean there will be no more recounts needed in States like Florida, where many NE Jews go to retire. NJ also could be in play. I have also read that Obama numbers for Hispanics has actually gone down, not up like we feared. Yes, they will still vote largely for the Democrats, but in smaller numbers.

Excellent points, NavyCanDo!

Just a small voting block would effect a dramatic change in FL and NJ. You're certainly right about that! WOW!

Apparently, Obama's numbers are going down in all "groups" save for government employees and others living off of us taxpayers.

Yeah, tragic that we even have to ask the question. Tragic that we know so little about the man (?) who occupies the highest office in the land.

In all seriousness, I can’t understand at all those who tempt God like that. I wonder if up near Signal Mountain, TN how many Churches still remain where the parishioners take up serpents and drink poison, etc.

This is just an observation, but do you think Barbara Streisand is the tip of the iceberg? Heard she has been avoiding the JOKER at every turn...true?! Perhaps the Exodus is starting.

The country clubber slogan makes no sense because in the 30’s the Democrats were the party of white racism and the Klan. They hated and imposed discrimination upon Jews as well as Blacks. Quotas for Jews was maintained in the Democrat Party. Democrats held power because of their race hate divide and conquer policies in preference for the majority - white Christians. The Democrat elite controlled the country clubs and all social institutions as they do today. The Republican country club claim was simply a political smear of the 60’s to rally the Jews to socialism and the Democrats’ post segregation order of discrimination and rights - against white Christians.

The central reason for Jews being attracted to the Democrat party is the ideology of socialism/Marxism and the post segregation discrimination order that targets non-Jewish Whites. They enjoy the policy of suppression of cultural and social Christianity and have worked hard to cleanse the culture for humanism. At the same time, targeted whites moved to the Republican party and preferred Blacks moved to the Democrat Party.

Jewish Americans, spiritually, like the idea of “alms” through taxation rather than through the Christian-American idea of volunteer service to the poor. Service to the needy makes Christians more influential in society. The problem with this political alignment is that the only way genocide will occur in the US is with an unconstitutional centralized government where National education and police power can be harnessed to target and kill a large group of people. The Democrats are the party to carry it out. Aligning with brown, black and muslim racists and white radial self haters is the block of voters to do it. It would most likely target Jews and conservative Christians.

Liberal Jews hanging with conservative Christians in the Republican Party...the ADL will have to carry machine guns; they would surrounded by so many thought, social and political crimes and enemies. That is a lot of people to monitor, correct, condemn, and control up close and personal. The J-word would be heard without apology. It is a tad difficult to classify Christians as domestic terrorists when you are at a political rally with them. I am kidding, sort of. The realignment of Jewish Liberals into the Republican party would not be a happy marriage under the modern doctrines of political correctness. The good news is that conservative Christians would raise Cain if the Democrats went after Jewish Americans and Israel. They are loyal to the even the Jews who discriminate, harass and hate them.

Finally for the ADLish contingent at Free Republic, all of the above statements are to be seen “some Jewish people” and not “all Jewish people.” Jewish Americans like all groups are not all one thing.

Jews have to wise up and get off the Democrat plantation permanently. A lousy economy can shock them into reality and I think it is. The worse the economy the less you indulge in liberal fantasies

EXCELLENT POINT!!! Though there are plenty of Jewish charities and Jewish founded hospitals that are for all people...You are correct

I see obituaries of rich Jews and they have willed money to a wide range of charities with the non-Jewish ones getting more money even

This is ingrained in the Jewish culture. Even after Moses led the Jews out of slavery, most of them wanted to return to Egypt. They preferred slavery to possible starvation. They like government’s security blanket. Jews outside of Israel lean toward appeasement. They support Israel more as catastrophic country insurance; and by supporting a victory mosque at ground zero, you better make sure you have your policy up to date.

So true and well said. We haven't forgotten God's curse on nations who turn their backs on Israel.

I’m Catholic, but I grew up on the Upper West Side and literally all my friends were Jewish. We used to go to Village when we were teenagers and then sometimes we’d stop at the Automat on 14th Street (this was in the early 1960s) and some of these ancient guys from the early 20th century immigration were still alive and would be sitting in the mezzanine reading their Yiddish newspapers and advocating for the Socialist revolution. I think this is something most people don’t understand about the situation that produced such heavy Jewish adherence to the Democratic (i.e., Socialist) Party.

Early 20th century American Jews were often left not by ideology (though many were Communists) but because they assumed that Democrat leaders would be more accepting of their Judaism. They had real fears of discrimination. It made sense then.

It does not any longer! There is NO excuse for a Jew being liberal now, but many of them are liberal because their family and friends will mock them hard if they are not, and they want to stay in the fold.

Being a conservative Jew is like being a conservative black. You take a lot of heat. It’s not for kiddies. :)

THE Jewish Press (the newspaper) is adamantly pro-Israel, anti-Obama. It’s an excellent newspaper that I wish would go online because it’s so filled with local stuff from NY that doesn’t apply here. They have great articles and opinion pieces.
