It looks like cash hungry local governments are getting awfully rapacious these days: Between her blog and infrequent contributions to ehow.com, over the last few years she says she’s made about $50. To [Marilyn] Bess, her website is a hobby. To the city of Philadelphia, it’s a potential moneymaker, and the city wants its cut. A business lic! That’s original. Next expect zoning, “you are in a residential zone and running a business of that nature is a violation of that zoning ordinance”.

I’d sue Philly for violation of my 1st Amendment rights if I were her (easy case, I would assume)!

I suppose that Phila. is looking for funds to continue paying Philadelphia Housing Authority chief Carl Greene his $300,000. per year salary along with all the other political appointees.

(This is the guy that has one of his condos in foreclosure)

The culture of corruption just NEVER ends ! !

Philly has to keep its priorities in order. An overpaid and useless bureaucrat is by far more important than actual daily city functions and services. The very idea of letting a valuable ($300K) civil servant go is unthinkable. It is far better that meaningless departments such as fire, police, EMT, etc. suffer any budget shortfalls.

They are just stealing the money from the federal and state governments. A business license is a tax deductible expense, so she would pay less in federal and state taxes - therefore the city is taking money from them also.

Philly is the same town that TRIED to run the Boy Scouts out of their HQ, behind LA it is probably my least favorite American City.
