PORTLAND -- A man was found dead of a gunshot wound inside a Northeast Portland home shortly before 7 a.m. Saturday.
Police said the shooting was not gang-related.
Officers were dispatched to 2700 block of NE Saratoga on a report of a shooting and found the man in his 30s inside a house, police said.
Several people who were in the home were being cooperative in police interviews. The shooter told police the bullets were fired in self-defense. Police said the shooter will not face any charges but would not release any further details in the incident.
11th shooting in a week
This was the 11th shooting in Portland over the last week alone. But the other shootings were believed to be gang-related.
Police said Saturdays shooting was not gang-related. That came as a relief to some of the neighbors.
It's a different type of situation so we don't feel more fearful here than any other place in the neighborhood or the area of Portland, said Kim McCleary, who lives nearby.
Adams wants public to help
At the end of last week, Portland Mayor Sam Adams said he thinks the city should add five new gun initiatives, to try and control the gun use and gang activity.
Adams wants the public to be involved in designing and deciding on the initiatives.
One of Adams ideas would involve a curfew for juveniles who have violated gun laws. Another recommendation was to create new penalties for people who fail to control childrens access to firearms or fail to report a theft or loss of a firearm.
Along with those initiatives, Adams also suggested increased penalties for people who are found in possession of loaded firearms in public places. And Adams would like to exclude people who have violated gun laws from areas of the city where the use of guns is especially high.
Adams has asked for public comments on the proposed initiatives over the next two weeks.
I should have said, Mayor Adams calls for more infringements on our Second Amendment rights.
So the mayor is concerned about guns in the hands of gang members. So banning them is going to do what to rectify that situation? Would the gang members abjure the possession and use of guns knowing that they are illegal? Do they carry their guns legally now? Have they acquired them legally? If a gang member has a choice of acquiring a gun legally in a gun store or acquiring a hot one on the street, surely he would go to the store, no?
The left is just dying to take away our right to self defense. They would much rather have the underclass break in and take what is “rightfully theirs” from the “oppressor” class.
Just another way liberals take money from people who work honestly all their lives and give it to people who vote democrat.
Pikers. Chicago has more than that in one day.
Sam Adams is the Mayor who had sex with an underage boy and prosecutor and state AG declined to prosecute.
NE Portland has some wonderful old homes in some parts, but it is not the safest area in which to live.
Aside from one Safeway store, there really isn’t a single major national chain store in the area aside from some fast food joints.
Fortunately, almost all the shottings in Portland are gang related so no one much cares.
Word that...
I would say that Mayor Adams has his head up his ass ...but, historically, it's been too crowded in that orifice to assume that there would be room.
Wait...?
He’s a digger?
I don’t normally wade into this but, if true, this guy’s a Faggot and a rapist.
Beau Breedlove tells of his romance as a 17-year-old with Sam ...
Well, that’s great. I’m sure his mother and father are proud.
Mayor Pervert sure isn’t hindered by laws when he goes careening through a parking lot in his pickup, with his pants undone. Police department works for him, so can’t blame them for letting it slide. What makes him think others criminals are going to abide by the law when he doesn’t?
Maybe they should cease Maine’s sanctuary state status.
Not only that, but this instance - and all others like it - will go into the “gun violence” total that the grabbers like to cite.
