The Oakland County Democratic Party says it has requested and accepted the resignation of operations director Jason Bauer in the wake of accusations he notarized campaign filings for a fake Tea Party candidate.
"We are saddened by this situation, but cannot condone his alleged actions," the OCDP said Sunday in a released statement. "For the sake of the organization, we must part ways effective immediately."
Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson, a Republican candidate for secretary of state, announced the allegations against Bauer on Friday, noting she had turned over documents to the county prosecutor and Michigan Attorney General's office for further investigation.
Johnson said her office was contacted by Aaron Tyler, a former Springfield Township resident who moved to Phoenix in late July only to find he had been nominated as a Tea Party candidate for a seat on the Oakland County Board of Commissioners.
Tyler said he'd never filed to run for the office, let alone signed an affidavit of identity which Bauer allegedly notarized. "I figured it must have been some sort of mistake," Tyler wrote in a letter. "I believe a fraud was committed."
A group calling itself "The Tea Party" last month nominated 23 candidates, including Tyler, for offices around the state. A number of tea party organizations and Republicans have suggested Democrats are backing the candidates in an attempt to split the conservative vote in November.
The Detroit Free Press reports Bauer notarized affidavits for twelve of the 23 candidates. Both the county and Michigan Democratic Party tell the newspaper they had no role in the process and were not aware of Bauer's involvement.
The state Board of Canvassers is scheduled to meet today and could rule on whether "The Tea Party" will be allowed to run its nominated candidates on the November ballot.

I’m surprised the MSM actually brought themselves to put this scoundrel’s party affiliation in the article. I guess they couldn’t avoid it.
Ruth Johnson for Secretary of State! (she’s running against Soros’ hand picked candidate Joycelyn Benson (D).

The OCDP is only sad that he got caught.
Bauer forced to resign
Personally I suspect Tyler may know more than he’s letting on. I realize than not all teachers are liberals but it is enough for me to want to see if he squeaks when a little pressure is applied.
She’s going to become a prime target of the left and I hope we can get some help from FReepers outside of michigan for Johnson.
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.

Yes, and I’m so very sure that it’s the only place in the country where this kind of fraud is being perpetrated by the party of “we can’t win unless we cheat, so cheat already.”
What's the basis for your suspicion? While I may have missed it, I haven't seen anything reported so far that seems unusual regarding him. He appears to be an innocent victim in all this. (Had the rats gotten his filing fee paid on time, I'm not sure that he would necessarily have known this was even happening.)
The fact that he’s a teacher almost automatically puts him in the opposition camp. Not all teachers are liberal and I’m not ready to convict him of anything but I do think we should make sure he doesn’t know more than he’s letting on.
While that's true, my suspicion is that the rats picked a name at random from either a donor list or a teachers' union roster. Since his moving out of the state would undoubtedly disqualify him from running, I'm thinking that they just got unlucky on their pick. I agree, though, it does bear looking into.
Looks like there has been a second resignation.
former Oakland County Democratic Party Chairman Mike McGuinness
McGuinness is Bauer’s “roommate” and a candidate for county commissioner.
