HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Just two people in New Jersey will begin receiving coverage Monday under new plans created by federal health care reforms.
NJ Protect plans are available to those who have been without insurance for at least six months and submit evidence of pre-existing health conditions.
The state will receive $141 million in federal subsidies to cover claims that exceed the premiums paid by the beneficiaries.
Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey spokesman Tom Vincz expects more people will enroll in the coming weeks.

Plagiarizing myself from earlier:
Seriously, why would any one want to waste their time with all that paper work?
Just go to the ER, run up a big bill and walk away like always!
American taxpayers will pick up the tab (LIKE ALWAYS) whether these people go through channels or NOT!!
My brother and his wife used to own a collection agency. Over 80 percent of the accounts were hospital ER. At that time, almost ALL of the accounts were for persons who were ELIGIBLE for coverage AT NO COST through some public assistance or social service agency but who were TOO STUPID or TOO LAZY to complete the forms and apply properly, so the accounts went to collection. The hospital realized a fraction of what was due for their treatment. Of course the hospital made (makes) ends meet for this shortfall by padding the bill for everyone else who receives treatment and HAS properly presented coverage.
Did you ever wonder why the broken leg or stitches for the small cut on your hand costs tenfold what logic, accounting and plain commons sense ought to dictate?
Good luck Mahatma Obama!! Its YOUR baby!!!
Gee. What a shock. Maybe its because it isn’t FREE like everything else he has given his followers so far.
141 million for two people....what a deal. I know that they mentioned more people are to join up as EXPECTED (that word again :)). Well now that people have this cheap insurance to purchase (allegedly) what are they going to do with the people who STILL refuse to purchase insurance? Will they still be able to go to the hospital and get assistance? That is the next thing to happen. No insurance, no hospital assistance.....something like “No soup for you”...lol.
lol all they got to do is advertise free drugs.
Good stuff. Thanks for the link.
Even they (uninsured) don't want it!
Never heard of such a thing. Is this for major medical with a large deductible.
No, my friend got it from one large hospital chain and I checked and found it at the one I use. He pays $0.00 for doctor visits and something like 50.00 for ER visits. There is also a max on hospital visits of just 5,000 or so. All services are through those particular hospitals with certain doctors in their plan, but it is legit. Check it out really. Call your hospital to see what they are offering in your area if you are out of work or making less than 30,000 or so.
THAT is exactly why this whole ‘Obamacare’ fiasco is such BS. It has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with health care.
Anna Little should beat Frank Pallone over the head with this in her race in NJ-6. Pallone was a major architect of this fiasco, and should be held to account.
Chris Christie won Pallone’s district by 15.5%. He can be beat, especially with news like this. Two enrollees for $75 Million?!? What a screw-up!
Let’s hope.
