Feds moving to dismiss some deportation cases

The Department of Homeland Security is systematically reviewing thousands of pending immigration cases and moving to dismiss those filed against suspected illegal immigrants who have no serious criminal records, according to several sources familiar with the efforts.

Culling the immigration court system dockets of noncriminals started in earnest in Houston about a month ago and has stunned local immigration attorneys, who have reported coming to court anticipating clients' deportations only to learn that the government was dismissing their cases.

Richard Rocha, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman, said Tuesday that the review is part of the agency's broader, nationwide strategy to prioritize the deportations of illegal immigrants who pose a threat to national security and public safety. Rocha declined to provide further details.

Critics assailed the plan as another sign that the Obama administration is trying to create a kind of backdoor "amnesty" program.

Raed Gonzalez, an immigration attorney who was briefed on the effort by Homeland Security's deputy chief counsel in Houston, said DHS confirmed that it's reviewing cases nationwide, though not yet to the pace of the local office. He said the others are expected to follow suit soon.

Yup, our federal government is encouraging lawlessness, but only for certain identity groups. I so hate what our government has become. It is not the government envisioned and created by the Founders of this great nation.

We need to deport or imprison ALL illegal aliens, including their anchor babies, seal/secure the border with a fence and armed troops, and have an armed response to anyone trying to re-enter illegally.

We are seeing the systematic dismantling of our nation.

The key to dismantling the nation is that all eyes are on Obama while all his czars and appointees work feverishly behind our backs and under the radar.

Something tells me this won’t be stopped at the polls.

This is all part of the narrative that the immigration system is broken because its a patchwork of laws that can’t be enforced. The truth is that its broken because the existing laws won’t be enforced. And the goal is just to get rid of any deportation laws period. The strategy is to make the illegals into legal, dependent clients to be served by the Democrats.

This is perfectly logical from the Democratic perspective as it will increase their majorities. Perfectly logical, that is, until you remember that the $$ for all this largess has to come from somewhere.

illegal immigrants who have no serious criminal records

It would be interesting to know the DHS's definition of 'serious' criminal record. My bet is that anything other than 'serial killer' is considered to be minor.

"We don't need no stinking drivers license, social sec number, health insurance, and visa".

Everything is available to them. Illegals can sue for violating their rights to the system.
