NYT Article Admits DDT Ban as a Cause of Bedbug Outbreak
NewsBusters ^ | August 25, 2010 | P.J. Gladnick

Sleep tight. Don't let the bedbugs bite.

Unfortunately for residents of many urban areas such as New York and Philadelphia, the bedbugs are not only biting but spreading at an alarming rate. Despite this outbreak, the mainstream media has until recently kept insisting that bedbugs developed a resistance to DDT so any emergency lifting of the EPA ban on that pesticide is unnecessary. However, your humble correspondent has speculated that the MSM would eventually have to change its position on the DDT ban due to the fact that so many of its members are being assaulted by bedbug attacks which keep increasing despite the use of other pesticides. Well, it now appears that New York Times writer, Emily B. Hager, has had a revelation about DDT. While its not an outright call for a lifting of the DDT, consider it an important pit stop on the way to demanding the ban be lifted:

...Bedbugs, once nearly eradicated, have spread across New York City, in part because of the decline in the use of DDT. According to the city’s Department of Housing and Preservation, the number of bedbug violations has gone up 67 percent in the last two years. In the most recent fiscal year, which ended on June 30, the city’s 311 help line recorded 12,768 bedbug complaints, 16 percent more than the previous year and 39 percent above the year before. A New York City community health survey showed that in 2009, 1 in 15 New Yorkers had bedbugs in their homes, a number that is probably higher now.

It's only a matter of time. The bedbug infestation will get so bad in NYC that eventually MSM members will DEMAND a lifting on the EPA ban on DDT. Self-interest in just getting a good night's sleep.

Liberals are poised to admit the DDT ban is a scam when their precious NY hotel rooms are at stake but they didn’t bat an eye when the DDT ban killed tens of millions (or hundreds of millions, who knows for sure) Africans from malaria.

They are heartless inhuman bast*rds. Every single one of them.

Rachel Carson’s whiny, ‘Silent Spring’ is to blame for this; and for the malaria that has taken millions of lives. She was heralded as an environmental genius (of the AlGore variety). Her politically timed rants against DDT (and other needed pesticides) have caused more suffering than will ever be admitted.

She was from Pittsburgh (they even renamed a bridge after her!) and when I was in school I had a wonderful science teacher (a Sister of Mercy) who railed against the idiocy of Carson’ turning back the hands of progress that bettered human existance; and against the the purported ‘coming Ice Age.’ (She taught of the Maunder Minimum, sun spots.)

How can they claim that bedbugs have developed a resistance to something that hasn’t been used for thirty years?

So, let’s see,
Bedbugs brought in by illegals (product of liberalism)
Bedbugs not exterminated by DDT (banned by liberalism)

Yea, I think I got it.

Bingo.

We now have something called and integrated pest management system that requires the rotational use of pesticides.

A lawsuit would be grand! Especially if the claim is found to be false.

The DDT ban has destroyed far more human lives than the Holocaust.

This plague of bedbug could turn into a blessing if the ban on DDT is truly lifted.

Is this the DDT Ban that was effective after December 31, 1972?

Doncha love those old-school nuns? They told it like it was. Something happened to that order, though, they're extremely liberal here in Michigan.

We need one of our capable conservative leaders (Mark Levin, paging Mr. Mark Levin) to write an expose on the whole Rachel Carson/DDT scandal and tie it into the overall, planned reduction of the population: the Malthusian movement, Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood, the eugenics movement, the green and animal rights movements, and the tax exempt foundations that funded those leftist efforts, and the NGOs set up to implement them, mostly through the UN - to name a few. Tyrants need to reduce populations in order to control them.

Don't count on it, that would be logical. What the government will probably do is announce a war on bedbugs to be fought using a expensive "GREEN" alternative treatment that they will subsidize claiming it creates jobs. Their friends and low income housing will qualify for "free" treatment that you and I will pay for.

Very true. If NYC and the left get behind lifting the ban then maybe the international community will start using DDT to kill mosquitoes in the third world and prevent millions of deaths annually.

With the kids coming back to Georgetown, GW and American Washington DC is sure to be in bedbug outbreak soon. Perhaps once DC gets hit, DDT will quickly get re-permitted.

I want my DDT! Life in the deep south is full of mosquitoes and their associated deceases (and many are making a come back) DDT is the best way to control, an out of control insect populations. I want my DDT!

I was raised in dry Los Angeles but I remember visiting family in Nebraska as a child and seeing the DDT trucks going up and down the street spraying for mosquitoes. (I also remember the cicadas. What a racket!)

None of my family got sick or died from DDT. And not from malaria or any of the other mosquito borne diseases either.

DDT worked, served a valuable purpose in society and was railroaded by the first environmental whackos.

It - the DDT ban - has caused literally millions of deaths by malaria over the past thirty-odd years. DDT was - is - truly a miracle of twentieth century chemical science. Yet the all-caring environmental Luddites don't care about the cost in human lives - it's okay, they'll send more mosquito nets.

July 2007 Nat Geo ran an extensive article documenting that DDT was NOT a problem around the world in it’s use for contolling maleria.
The ONLY place it was an issue is here in the U.S., were it was way over used and collected in deltas and estuaries.

IT WAS BANNED BECAUSE MALERIA CONTROLS THIRD WORLD POPULATIONS!!!!!
It was all about eugenics! PERIOD!

Yes. And sort of. One of the miracles of DDT is that it is very cheap to produce. The new and very expensive pesticide will be DDT manufactured under a protocol that will increase its manufactured cost by 10,000%. Watch for it.

According to WIKI:

First synthesized in 1874, DDT's insecticidal properties were not discovered until 1939, and it was used with great success in the second half of World War II to control malaria and typhus among civilians and troops. The Swiss chemist Paul Hermann Müller was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1948 "for his discovery of the high efficiency of DDT as a contact poison against several arthropods."[2] After the war, DDT was used as an agricultural insecticide, and soon its production and use skyrocketed.[3]

I remember being in college in the south in the 50's listening to a local song on the radio, "Ain't no flies on Jesus 'cause He's sprayed with DDT". Children were fed spoonfulls of DDT as a wormer. Many grew up to become fullblown Arkies, mountain men, and etc.
