A boozed-up bigot used a pocket knife to viciously slash an innocent cab driver in Manhattan - just because the driver was Muslim, police said Wednesday.
Michael Enright, 21, of upstate New York, was charged with felony attempted murder as a hate crime - among other crimes - after the sick attack on Ahmed Sharif, 43, Tuesday night.
"I feel very sad," Sharif said, according to a statement released by the Taxi Workers Alliance. "I have been here more than 25 years. I have been driving a taxi more than 15 years. All four of my kids were born here."
Sharif, who was slashed in the throat, upper lip, arm and hand, said he believes the battle over the Ground Zero mosque has inflamed anti-Muslim sentiment in America.
"I never feel this hopeless and insecure before," the Queens man said in the statement. "Right now, the public sentiment is very serious (because of the Ground Zero mosque debate). All \[taxi\] drivers should be more careful."
Enright, of Brewster, was "very, very intoxicated" when he hailed Sharif's yellow cab shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday, a police source said.

Yeah, where was the MSM outrage over that? Or the racial attacks in Kansas City’s Plaza earlier this summer?
...the timing on this is suspect.
Never believe anything you see or hear in the MSM.
Yep, what proof do they have that Enright asked if the guy was a Muslim, other than heresay?
The needle of my credulity meter is quivering somewhere between bull and s**t.
I agree.
Attacker is a Left wing activist connected to the Ground Zero Mosque proponents.
Agit prop gone haywire it seems.
“...Check and see his party affiliation.. its probably another liberal plant....”
My suspicions exactly.
If it’s crude and stupid, always, ALWAYS look for a progressive behind the act.
LOL! Is that the “bomb magnet” lady?
Who says he wasn’t lying like most of these so called hate crimes?
Pray for America
Well then, I guess we need a mosque at Ground Zero.
Well, I guess we don't need the GZ Mosque after all.
Perp is employed by a Pro-Park51 group.
Consistent with their teaching that ANY action that furthers their cause is justified......
What? He didn’t like getting cut up because of his religion? I’ll be darned! Whoodathunkit! Getting cut up just because you don’t believe like they think you should. I’m shocked I tell ya! Shocked! Surprised even!!
Is there any indication that THIS muslim cabbie “MURDERED . . . dozens of Americans on American soil,” went on a holy jihad, or killed anyone at all?
Are you seriously justifying this stabbing?
So it could be totally staged - and the cabbie is in on it.
OR the guy got the job intending to find Muslims to hurt. What sort of a group is it?
> Are you seriously justifying this stabbing?
Oh, please, don’t be so emotional.
I am saying NOTHING of the kind.
Just saying that the press portrays the attack on the muzzy cabbie is a hate crime while the press asserts that Hassan MURDERING more than a dozen Americans while screaming “Allahu Akhbar” is not a hate crime.
Get a grip.
There is no excuse for this, no justification, it is appalling.
I’m sure my Islamophile friends on Facebook will bring this up as we are in the middle of terse debates on the GZ Mosque and Islam itself.
The response is to take it on. See my first sentence above and then mention that Muslims and or Radical Muslims, including the GZ Mosque imam, mitigate Islamic attacks by saying US foreign policy is an accessory and attempt to justify the terror actions in some manner.
The difference speaks volumes.
The fact that this is not the top story on the MSM speaks volumes. If it were true, they would have broken into their regular programming to cover the story.
To the Daily News, Yonkers is "upstate New York."
Remember when you could read a "What, who, when, where, why, how many times story?"
