A solar system containing up to seven planets orbiting a sun-like star has been detected 127 light years from Earth.
The planetary system is believed to be the largest ever discovered beyond the sun.
Astronomers have confirmed the presence of five planets and have tantalising evidence of two more.
And it comes as Nasa has said that it plans to make an announcement about an 'intriguing' planetary system that it has discovered using the Kepler space telescope Kepler looks at the telltale 'wobble' as planets pass in front of distant stars and, earlier this year, astronomers announced that it had discovered more than 700 possible planets. The conference is scheduled for 1pm EDT (6pm BST).

Simply put, we do not believe there is another system like Sol in the entire galaxy. LOL!

Can we tax it?
Thanks for the laugh, I'm sure Taxama is working on it ...

LOL? That’s your only response to years of research in this area? And I’m the ignorant one?

This is nuts...Outrageous.....What is taking so damn long? We should have found one in the first couple of weeks! At this rate it might take 40 years or maybe even 100 years to find an earth-like planet....I say we give up! That is an ignorant response. Read Ward and Brownlee's "Rare Earth", then we can talk.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but since a star other than Sol is involved, it can’t be a “solar” system, can it?

This star/planet system, just 127 light years away is practically our cosmic next door neighbor. Star/Planet systems are fairly common, apparently.
The Milky Way has maybe 400 Billion stars, and there are another 100 Billion galaxies out there, each with Billions more star systems. Without a doubt, there is other life out there in the universe.

I honestly don't mean to be mean to you, and I regretfully apologize if necessary...Look, if I hurt your feeling...I didn't mean it...Just feeerget it. slap yourself or whatever.
I just feel obligated to say.... You could be right....We could be the only things crawling all over a planet, orbiting this star....In the entire universe.
What do we know??
Our microorganism communities scattered in cowflop all over this planet very likely might agree with you.
