This has nothing to do with reaching out to the Muslim world or hating America (although both might be factors later). This is election-year politics, pure and simple. Obama and the demonrats do not want to get their whacko left-wing angry at them again by holding military commissions at the still open Guantanamo Bay (EVIL, George Bush) facility until after the elections.

Forget the victims and families of the victims - most of them probably don’t vote for demonrats, anyway - keep the lefty base out of the picture so you can hold onto their campaign funds.

"It's politics at this point," said one military official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss policy. He said he thinks the administration does not want to proceed against a high-value detainee without some prospect of civilian trials for other major figures at Guantanamo Bay.

Muslim traitor ping!

Believe it or not, you’re likely right. A good chunk of American now realize he’s a Muslim, so why not start officially acting like one?

Of course he did. Any other action would help his country.

obama did a good job of hiding his muslim side, but over time a person’s true self comes out.
Based on what they are doing, there is no muslim that will be prosecuted under this regime no matter what they do.
I guess the dimrat party has partnered up with the radical muslims. They are acting in the same interest and apparently have the same goal.

That is what the voters said, via their votes, they wanted. They wanted change, and by golly, they are going to get it. They should have thought about stuff like this happening before they voted.

“Prosecution?? Why was that the response to an Act of War and why in h*ll is it being stopped? “

Better to stop a prosecution of a terrorist if you’re not sure you’re going to win. If we prosecute him and lose, we’ll have to cut him loose. As it is, he stays in Guantanamo. I have no problem with keeping him there without a trial until we’re sure we’re going to win. Remember that the original plan with all the Guantanamo detainees was that they would never get a trial. So why is there a rush to have one now?

In all fairness, why was`nt the Cole bomber prosecuted during Bush`s terms? Was`nt 8 years long enough to build a case against him?

“You know not of what you speak.”

You’re missing my point, which is that it’s better to keep the bad guys in jail rather than going to trial without an airtight case. But okay, I’m a sucker for this sort of thing. Fill me in. Where did you read that the original plan early in the War on Terror was that the terrorist-detainees at Guantanamo would have the rights to a trial? I thought that was a large part of the reasoning for putting them in Guantanamo. They would not be on US soil and would not be afforded the protections of the US constitution: thus no right to know the specific charges against them, no rights to counsel, and no rights to a trial.

If anyone has any illusions about the nature of the Obama Junta and Holder’s DoJ, let them be cleared up here:

As usual with this crowd in charge, ignore evil and castigate good every time they have a chance.
Eric Holder is the most disgusting excuse for a human being who has absolutely not one scintilla of integrity. He was put in this position with clear orders from his boss evidently to not pursue justice but to make up for past grievances, real and imagined. How else do you blatantly ignore videotaped voter intimidation and go after a county sheriff who is just doing his job by enforcing the law.
We, as Americans should be outraged and our Senators and Congressmen should be incensed that they conferred on this piece of human debris, this empty suit, this petty excuse of a man, the honor and the power of his office and has so unashamedly abused.
This should be a major theme in this election and in 2012.

It does not matter if he is a Muslim or not, the results would still be the same.

obama did a good job of hiding his muslim side, but over time a person’s true self comes out.

It's not just a "muslim side." I think it's an anti-American, anti-captalist side. Holder and company put so much energy into going after Arizona and Sheriff Joe, there is none left for going after terrorists.

Meanwhile, Obama confesses US sins (including Arizona's new immigration law) to the "UN High Commissioner for Human Rights," with the implied message to thug governments around the world that "we are just as bad as they are."

I agree. In reading the full article, it’s evident to me that this is a bone thrown to zero’s far left flank, nothing more. Gates is a willing idiot, as usual. I think Nashiri will be successfully prosecuted eventually. The left still has their panties in a wad about Gitmo and claims of torture, so this is being done to placate them.

What would be amusing to see is for this story to go viral. It’d be fun to watch the zero admin, Holder and Gates having to walk it back and do the two-step shuffle when/if the rational public learns of this.

I agree. What the hell in any prosecution is going on that it should take that long to get off the ground? This should have been over and done with 5 years ago.

Bush, Rove and all those guys should have known after the ‘06 elections that this country was going to elect either Hillary Clinton or someone even worse. They should have buttoned up all these big cases and sent these animals to the livestock pen known as Federal Death Row long ago. Further, it should have been over and done prior to ‘06 anyway just as a matter of bringing justice to the country in general and to the families of the dead in particular.

If Bush had cleaned the rats out of the State Dept. and the Justice Dept. when he took office instead of leaving these people in their jobs to continue to wreak havoc on America, many things would have been done that should have been done when we had the reins of power but were not done due to “compassionate” conservatism or political correctness or “turn the other cheek” bullshit policies.
