VINEYARD HAVEN, Mass. — President Barack Obama is aiming to underscore his commitment to a region weary of calamity as he travels to New Orleans on the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Obama ends his Martha's Vineyard vacation Sunday and heads to the Gulf, five years to the day from when Katrina roared ashore in Louisiana. Eighty percent of New Orleans was flooded when the storm tore through protective levees.

But can’t be bothered to show up in Kentucky during their ice storm, or ND/Iowa during their flooding, or Nashville when THEY got flooded out, or the Gulf (aside from a couple of photo ops). It’s all about appearances with this clown. Too bad that most of the country sees through his garbage.

MSM pandering the 5-yr anniversary for all it’s worth.

It just gives them a reason to continue bashing Bush. Anything to blame someone else.

The one-day visit to New Orleans is the start of a grueling period for Obama

Because he's been taking so much time off.

He has no commitment to anyone.

That's right. If you already are voting for him, he knows you are suckers who will vote for him no matter what. If you don't vote for him, he knows you never will.

Therefore, take a lot of vacations and one-hour visits to cities just to make it look like he is working.

The occasion of the Martin Luther King jr mall speech was a seminal event in American history.

The event was celebrated yesterday on the mall. One can only wonder why the president and black guy in chief failed to attend and honor the greatest of all his kind?

It's because he lied through his teeth when he claimed to be the first "post-partisan", "post-racial" president.

He is hyper-partisan, and as racist as they come.

***Eighty percent of New Orleans was flooded when the storm tore through protective levees.***

The same protective levees for which the fed gov. sent money to repair years before the storm, but which was used for other things including a nice boat harbor for the politicos.

Obama Barf Alert from Yahoo and the AP:

“New Orleans is still a work in progress, but a lot of nonprofit organizations, foundations, and community organizations have come together to bring real change to the city,” says Amy Liu, deputy director of the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program. Most of the funding for these efforts has come from the federal government, along with philanthropic organizations such as the Rockefeller and Gates foundations, says Ms. Lui.

Much of the $142 billion in federal recovery funding for the Gulf Coast was appropriated by Congress under President Bush, and his administration created the framework for the region’s recovery. But Liu credits the Obama administration with speeding up the recovery by cutting through bureaucratic gridlocks that were holding up funding, and appointing a Cabinet that has taken a stake in reforming of the city’s public-service sector.

“The arbitration panels that the administration created to unblock FEMA funding really accelerated the spending of infrastructure dollars, and the Cabinet has otherwise been very involved in New Orleans, coming here often to make sure that rebuilding and reforms of the schools, of the police department, of city government are moving forward,â€

According to the White House, Mr. Obama’s efforts have freed up more than $2.25 billion in FEMA public-assistance dollars for Louisiana recovery efforts since he took office. High-level members of his administration have visited the Gulf Coast 155 times. Ahead Obama’s visit on Sunday, eight Cabinet members and agency heads are slated to spend all or most of four days in the city visiting schools, health clinics, and nonprofit recovery organizations.

So, most of the 142 Billion dollars in Fed money did was set up a “framework for recovery” IOW: money wasted.

Ever wonder whatever happened to the gazillions of dollars in private donations given freely by the American people? Where did it go?

FUNO

Five years and still unrepaired. Not even partially

Are the people down there really that incompetent and/or lazy?

NOLA is one of those places I have no desire to visit. They took my recovery donation and tax money and pissed it away.

That’s what happens when political fiefdoms and massive bureaucracies collide in a cesspool of corruption... good people get burned.

Been there a couple times. I liked Baton Rouge more.. altho Fat City was fun. ;-)
