Gay Republicans Rising
Yahoo News ^ | Aug. 29, 2010 | Timothy Patrick McCarthy

NEW YORK – Will the Republican Party follow Ken Mehlman’s lead and step out on gay rights? Historian Timothy McCarthy imagines a future where the GOP starts talking like Harvey Milk.

Every queer knows that some of the biggest homophobes are closet cases. Simply recall the names of Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, Larry Craig, or George “rent-boy” Rekers. The latest Republican to move from the closet to the Log Cabin is Ken Mehlman, the architect of George W. Bush’s successful 2004 reelection campaign and former chairman of the Republican National Committee. Judging by the current political climate, Mehlman’s coming out may not be an aberration for Republicans. It could actually point the way toward its future.

Last week, Mehlman, whose “lifestyle” has long been an open secret in Washington, made waves by finally acknowledging his homosexuality to The Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder. “It’s taken me 43 years to get comfortable with this part of my life,” Mehlman said. “Everybody has their own path to travel, their own journey…” In coming out, Mehlman also joined a growing chorus of GOP power players—among them Dick Cheney, Laura Bush, and former McCain campaign adviser Steve Schmidt—who now say they support the right of same-sex couples to get married. But Mehlman is going even further, raising money and assisting one of the main groups responsible for the (so far) successful court challenge to California’s anti-gay Proposition 8 ...

Perhaps, but I have known of many single mothers who had jobs and were not on welfare. Regardless, it certainly doesn’t say much for family values.

Let them know they will be voted out in the PRIMARIES of they continue on this path.

That’s hardly an issue when you look at the statement of GOProud or the Log Cabin Republicans.

These groups are nearly obssessed with gay rights, which helps little to none, when immigration, radical islam, foreign enemies, etc., need to be addressed. I understand your concern, and agree on that. However, any person who supports illegal immigration, abortion as a highly unregulated procedure, or stimulus bill on my watch is not supported. As far as I have heard, many of these guys are also RINOs as well. They cannot be called fiscally conservative in any sense.

I can oppose frivolous divorce and sodomy promotion at the same time.

This is classic Kirk & Madsen. This talking point was deliberately designed to silence anyone who dares to disagree with sodomite degenerates. Many in contemporary society have bought this, hook, line and sinker.

“Again, it’s the welfare hammock”

Also a cultural hammock. Single parenthood is promoted in every conceivable way.

Geez...the relationships are incestuous..classmate of Obama? Our enemy is not only the democrat party but republican as well. These people have been chipping away at our Republic in strategic places; slipping under the radar and getting appointed/elected to strategic places all the while working against us.

The question is, can we successfully purge these communists/degenerates from the Republican party?

homosexuals are looking to mainstream because the left needs to destroy the family unit.

Either children are raised by a father and mother or they will be raised by the taxpayers--welfare, prisons, or foster care. Homosexual "marriage" will destroy the family and strengthen the government's role in raising children to an extent we cannot even imagine. Probably explains more than anything else the left's advocacy of this travesty.
