Sen. Tom Coburn: Newt Gingrich 'last person I'd vote for'
Politico ^ | 08/30/2010 | Andy Barr

Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is pouring cold water on the idea of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich running for president.

“He's the last person I'd vote for for president of the United States,” Coburn said during a town hall event in Wagoner, Okla., over the weekend, as was reported by the Tulsa World.

In explaining why he wouldn't support Gingrich, Coburn specifically targeted the ex-speaker’s three marriages as proof that Gingrich “doesn't know anything about commitment to marriage.”

“His life indicates he does not have a commitment to the character traits necessary to be a great president,” said Coburn, who also noted that Gingrich is a “super-smart man.”

“Newt’s marriages are the least relevant fact.”

So you would trust a guy that cheats on his wife or just walks out on his wife with operating the most powerful office in the world? What would he do if things got really tough?

You can not trust a man who cheats on his wife, in anything!

It's of course possible.....his ex's weren't all that nice to him either.

I dunno....do you?

Barach Obama or Jimmy carter most likely have never cheated on their wives....how’s that working out for us. I don’t want Newt to run for president but his cheating on his wife is not the reason. Posing with Nancy Polosi soured me on him after many other McCain like gestures.

I have heard he wasn’t and they haven’t said too much that I have heard.

"The choice is between a true conservative with honor and Newt. Not between Newt and Obama. There is a primary first, then the general election."

Yeah, I've heard of primaries.

Maybe we can find another Juan McLame to give the appearance of "opposition".

Maybe it's been in private.......

I dunno....I'm just not all that quick to jump to conclusions.

Knowing people, knowing relationships...and how they can be.

Not saying I'd vote for Gingrich....But his marriage record...doesn't figure in...for me.

FWIW-

How true, Reagan was our first and only president with a previous divorce. I think of many other reason to knock Newt out though, the first being his climate change escapades....

As for Jimmy Carter, I can not speak for what He believes, but some of the things I have heard him say leaves me wondering about his Christianity.

As for Barack Hussien Obama, I am certain he is not a Christian, he is a Muslim. We were warned by the founders of this nation of electing a foreigner to the office of President.

I also think that I could not vote for Newt.

I think he would make a great Chief of Staff for Sarah, tho.

I would love Newt as head of HHS in a GOP admin or HUD., but not as Pres.

No...I want to see the next GOP president eliminate HHS and HUD.

It's just a shame that Sen. Coburn will be out of the Senate after 2012. I wonder if his self-imposed two term limit will stop him from running for the GOP Presidential candidacy.....or if he even has any interest in doing so.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Coburn is currently running for re-election to the Senate, and he is way ahead in the polls. His term would run through January 2017. He was first elected to the Senate in 2004, so this would be his second term.

I think he would make a superb president, and I would enthusiastically support his candidacy in 2012.

The article was about Newt not being fit because he cheated on his wives.....I was merely pointing out the absurdity of depending on that as to whether a man is fit for the Presidency!!!

Newt is damaged goods, and if he weren’t so intoxicated on Potomac slime, he would have the good graces to know it.

Yes. Or how about Secretary of Education? That would have heads exploding. I do think Newt is a brilliant man.

Coburn, consider your vote canceled. Newt is the first one I would vote for.
