"I simply turn on the Golden EIB Microphone and share my honest passions and beliefs with people.
And they're free to go elsewhere.
They're free to ignore; they're free to believe; they're free to be entertained, I don't care.
They're free to do whatever they want.
But a lot of people aren't free to smoke cigarettes where they want;
they're not free to drink where they want;
they're not free to eat the kind of food they want to eat;
they're not free to eat trans fats;
they're not free to drive certain places.
Pretty soon we're going to be told what kind of cars we have to drive.
I can't cause that.
I can't restrict anybody's freedom.
We've elected a guy who can, does, and wants to, all under the guise of saving us.
So I appreciate the effort, and I appreciate somewhat losing my temper here.
But don't compare me ever to an authoritarian who thinks so little of people that without him they can barely breathe on their own.
Don't ever do that."

LEARN IT, LOVE IT, LIVE IT!

If one cannot understand Rush's words above, then one does not truly understand FREEDOM!

The government seems to detest the idea of free markets. They refuse to let them work, they meddle and tinker and then complain that free markets don’t work.

Carrabba’s is a great restaurant! I know Rose Carrabba personally. She is very open about what goes in their food but some places are not.

We don’t need more laws demanding that businesses protect stupid people from themselves.

If anything, we need some laws protecting businesses from stupid people.

Most especially, from stupid people at the highest l;evels of government.

Another example of how little the government understands business. This requirement adds cost to an industry that has very low margins. The restauraunt owner has to have his meal items tested for calorie content, then he has to have menus printed and wall posters hung as well as factor in other costs such as standardization of meal portions. Then there is the administrative effort to comply.

The upshot of it all will be fewer choices for consumers, less innovation as they stick with standard meal items longer as to avoid the associated costs of new meal combination testing and printing costs, lower sales and lower margins. This will ultimately impact jobs.

RUSH:  Ladies and gentlemen, we now have in New York City -- dadelut dadelut dadelut dadelut! -- CAFE standards for cafes!

WCBS-TV Channel 2 in New York is reporting that the mayor, Michael Bloomberg, has declared a "War on Salt."

New York City Mayor Bloomberg has called "on US manufacturers to reduce the salt content until it results in a 50% reduction in salt in ten years."

Now, the subhead here is:  "Citizens revolt, claim New York City is turning into a Nanny State."

See, at some point these liberals will overreach, even with their own supporters and minions.

First it was what?  Trans fat?  No, it was smoking, and then trans fats and all these others things.

So yeah, total Nanny State in New York City.

I do love Carrabbas! Well, I just don’t go to places if I can’t figure out what they put in the food. Of course, I try to cook at home as often as possible (which is way too often!).

I believe “calorie counts” are good on mass marketed food items sold in interstate commerce. I use them myself for checking the sodium content, due to a family history of heart and blood pressure issues.

However, I don't look for them or expect them, or want the law to mandate them for my local merchants ,whether they be restaurants, bakeries or delicatessens.

It is enough that my regular shopping for food for home makes me a better informed consumer, which provides all I need to judge food purchases I make from local vendors, and to accept the limitations that come with it; preferring to error on the side of Liberty than the nanny state.

Liberty is for protecting ALL my rights, the nanny state is for protecting me from myself.
