Just as Lisa was conceding, the AK Division of Elections added another 161 votes to Miller’s total. His lead is now 1,630 votes, close to the 1,668 he had at the end of counting last week.

Hey, he won!

Good news tonight.

We watched on line for about an hour and a half (our tv is paused for the summer), it was truly inspiring.

Yup the LP shut her down.

She can either mount a write in campaign or save herself some dignity and concede.

Father and daughter, together in retirement.

The RNC is not and never was involved in the Murkowski/Miller issue.

Thanks for the post. I always assumed the NRSC was part of the RNC.

To be honest, I like the NRSC even less now - protecting incumbents is not a priority for me. Protecting the Constitution and liberty should be the priority.

Both chambers and both major parties have these committees. The mission of each committee is to see that the party within the chamber maintains its strength within that chamber, at a minimum. There’s the NRSC, NRCC, DRSC and DCCC. All are in-house committees, separate from each other, and separate from the RNC/DNC. The chairmanships are rotated with each Congress.

I ‘get it’ from the big picture perspective.

In the case of the Senate R’s, starting off the session with only 40 members, it was urgent to maintain and expand. And that includes keeping everyone on your team on your team. In this particular Congress, the R Senate “lost” Specter and gained Brown.

With only 40 out of 100 Members there is little they can do except, if they all stand together, block legislation. They can do nothing to push their own agenda. The NRSC has an imperative to hold every seat they have, and to gain more seats.

I actually feel badly for Cornyn being stuck as the NRSC chairman this year. He drew the short straw. His job as chairman was to be sure they didn’t lose ANY R’s in the Senate and to try to pick up as many D seats as possible.

So, the NRSC DID get involved in primaries, notably FL and AK. Looked at objectively, in a normal year, supporting Crist and Murkowski were ‘safe bets’ to hold onto 2 R Senate seats. Both had high name ID, held state-wide office, and enjoyed enormous fundraising capabilities. One would have bet on 1/1/10 that both could easily have been elected to the Senate.

The NRSC did sent an attorney up to AK, and I believe the team did ‘canvas’ absentee voters to get a sense of how that count would go. I don’t believe they actually asked absentee voters who they voted for with the goal of eliminating Miller votes, but to calculate the likely outcome of the count. Having done that, they left town, likely telling Sen. Murkowski it wasn’t stacking up well for her.

Alas, this has been anything but a normal political year.

Ouch...

Thanks AuntB, however your whole post was outside the boundaries that we have set for Sarah. All of it was before the 12:01am deadline for anything that can be addressed on the same day.

This is your first warning.

LMAO

You take care...

It’s great to see your posts here.
