Pressure mounts for DHS as 'no confidence' votes continue and border violence grows

http://www.examiner.com/county-political-buzz-in-san-diego/pressure-mounts-for-dhs-as-no-confidence-votes-continue-and-border-violence-grows

Mounting pressure from rank-and-file agents at ICE and Border Patrol has led to another “no confidence’ vote over the weekend from the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers (NAFBPO).

Recently the unions that represent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Border Patrol agents took part in a vote that placed “no confidence” in management leaders of Department of Homeland Security.

The new vote from NAFBPO gives a strong case against DHS and their continued inadequacies in border enforcement. “We strongly believe that with illegal aliens entrenched in every single state of our nation, interior enforcement of our immigration laws is woefully lacking,” said G. Alan Ferguson, Executive Assistant to the Chairman of NAFBPO.

NAFBPO believes the hardworking men and women within ICE and Border Patrol are doing their level best to enforce illegal immigration laws, but it is management’s unwillingness to put forth policies that will slow or deter illegals from crossing the United States border looking for work.

“NAFBPO is adamant there are two primary tasks that must be accomplished to improve our system for legal immigration while eliminating the blight of illegal immigration. These are a secured border and strong interior enforcement,” Ferguson said. “NAFBPO’s collective experience in dealing with border and immigration matters as well as an institutional knowledge dating back over a half century leads us to emphatically state that without these two tasks being implemented successfully, immigration control will never be possible.”

Buck Brandemuehl, retired Chief of the Border Patrol and a founder of NAFBPO said, “The U.S. has reached a critical crossroads in dealing with the illegal alien problem. This problem must be addressed now, as it is strangling our democracy and threatening our national security.”

America needs to realize the importance of addressing the illegal immigration issue and as such NAFBPO says they will put forth a plan for DHS management to review when they finally begin the arduous task of tackling comprehensive immigration reform.

“We will provide a common sense solution to illegal immigration and return to the rule of law,” Ferguson said.

NAFBPO was founded in 2006 by a group of retired Border Patrol Chiefs and agents in order to use their collective knowledge and experience to educate America to the realities of border and immigration issues, while actively working towards eliminating amnesty and provide effective immigration reform solutions.

“We are an organization advocating for increased homeland security through a controlled border and effective immigration enforcement policies,” Ferguson concluded.

Also, a note from Mike Cutler:

Earlier today I was sent an e-mail from one of the folks on my distribution list for my commentaries and my notices of upcoming appearances.

She enumerated a number of issues relating to the national security issues not being addressed by the current administration and at the end of her e-mail asked (rhetorically):

> “When is Obama going to give them the key to the kingdom?”

I thought you might find my response to her e-mail to be of interest....

Hi: ****

I really hate to tell you this, but our government has provided and apparently will continue to provide terrorists and transnational gang members and assorted thugs the keys to our kingdom and in massive numbers!

This has been going on for decades! Both political parties bear responsibility!

Every alien who is permitted to enter our country on a “temporary” visa or under the auspices of the insane “Visa Waiver Program” has been provided with a key to the front door much the way that a hotel guest is provided with a key card that is valid for a certain period of time.

After your allotted time as a guest at a hotel expires, the key you were given by the front desk will no longer work. If you fail to remove your belongings by a mutually agreed upon time on the final day of your stay in the hotel, the management will enter what had been your room and remove your belongings. If management at the hotel determines you damaged any of the furnishings of the hotel or stole anything, legal action will, most likely, be taken to recoup the damages.

Aliens, on the other hand, who fail to depart the United States within the previously agreed upon time period have virtually nothing to fear! The actual number of aliens who violate the terms of their admission into the United States is unknown. The government, notorious for underestimating such numbers of deportable (removable) aliens estimate that there are roughly five million such “visa violators.” Violations of terms of admission by nonimmigrant aliens take a number of forms. Some temporary visitors simply remain in the United States beyond the date they were authorized to remain in the United States. Others seek employment for which they are not authorized while other aliens who were provided with temporary work visas fail to report for work or quit and fail to leave the United States. Foreign students may fail to attend the schools for which they were issued visas to attend. Still other aliens commit crimes and are convicted for violating various laws.

It is estimated that there are fewer than 300 special agents of ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) seeking to locate those estimated 5 million visa violators!

On May 11, 2006 I testified before the House Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations of the Committee on International Relations on the topic:

“VISA OVERSTAYS: CAN WE BAR THE TERRORIST DOOR?”

You can read the transcript of that hearing at:

http://commdocs.house.gov/committees/intlrel/hfa27480.000/hfa27480_0f.htm
The visa process is clearly fatally flawed but what bewilders me even more is that our nation continually expands the extremely dangerous Visa Waiver Program to the point where the citizens of Greece just became eligible to enter our country without first applying for and receiving a visa! Greece is the 36th such country on that list!

You can review the State Department’s website for information about this wrong headed and, indeed, treacherous Visa Waiver Program at:

Wow, Cancun is such a beautiful place, but
with everything that’s been going on
in Mexico, I’d have to think twice before
planning a trip down there.

mexico is as horrible a neighbor the United States could possibly have. I go out of my way to avoid buying products made there and absolutely refuse to travel there. There are plenty of beautiful places in the USA to visit before going to that hell-hole. Keeping those dollars at home helps our economy as well.

Grenade In Puerto Vallarta Bar An ‘Accident’: Mexican Governor
NPR ^ | August 26,2010
Posted on August 26, 2010 4:09:50 PM PDT by SwinneySwitch

Amid Mexico’s escalating drug violence, grenades have become the latest weapon of choice used by drug gangs, with many of the grenades of Cold War vintage and manufactured in the U.S. or Eastern Europe, according to a recent Washington Post story.

So on hearing that a grenade which wounded at least 15 people was detonated in a nightspot in Puerto Vallarta, a destination once popular with tourists from the U.S. and elsewhere before the surging violence, it was easy enough to assume that someone had rolled a grenade into the bar as part of the cycle of attacks and revenge.

But NPR’s Jason Beaubien reports for the network’s radio newscast that the governor of Jalisco state says it was an accident.

JASON: The governor of Jalisco, Emilio Gonzalez Marquez, says the grenade went off by accident.

Speaking on local radio, the governor said some young people had brought grenades into the bar “Pink Cheladas” just off the tourist strip in Puerto Vallarta.

One of the young men was carrying a bucket of beers and accidentally tripped the explosive, according to the governor.

No one was killed in the explosion but at least 4 people had to have their legs amputated...

Grenades have become a common weapon of Mexico’s drug cartels. This week there have been several grenade attacks in the northern industrial city of Monterrey.

Gov. Gonzalez says the police can’t patrol every bar and nightclub... and it’s up to bar owners to make sure weapons aren’t allowed inside. Maybe a guy with a bucket of beers did trip and set off the grenade though it would seem to pay to be skeptical about this explanation. My understanding of how time-delay grenades work is that you have to pull the safety pin which allows the striker lever to be released before you throw it.

If grenades were so easily exploded by bumping etc, then they would be a lot more dangerous for troops to carry around than they actually are.

Maybe theres’ a grenade expert out there who can tell us about the plausibility of the governor’s version of events.

In any event, I don’t think it’s going to give people, especially tourists but Mexicans too, much comfort to hear the governor call this describe what happened as an “accident.”
