A new survey of Alaska voters from Tuesday's still undecided Republican Senate primary between Sen. Lisa Murkowski and upstart Joe Miller shows that, while the "tea party" was definitely a major factor, Sarah Palin may not have been.
Sixty-five percent of Republican primary voters said that former Alaska Gov. Palin's endorsement of Miller had no bearing on their vote, according to a survey released Tuesday by the liberal-leaning Public Policy Polling. Only 15 percent said the Palin endorsement was very important, while 20 percent said it was somewhat important
[snip]
While only 18 percent of GOP voters in the survey identified themselves as tea party members, 53 percent said they supported the goals of the conservative movement, with Miller winning those folks by a 74 percent to 27 percent margin. Murkowski held a 88-12 edge with voters who said they did not support tea party goals.

Im telling you they are trying soooo hard to minimize Sarah, funny stuff right there.
Listening to morning Joe this morning. First thing out of Mika’s mouth was “Well AMerica might not want Palin as President, a new poll shows” PUKKKKEEEE!!!
I’ll take the evidence of the candidate himself, the national fund raising, and the extraordinary defeat of Murkowski it self as evidence that it did not happen without Palin intervening.
BARF ALERT
the guy was 30-40 points behind and Sarah’s help was instramental....Joe Miller even said so.
Let them think ANYTHING they want.
In NOV when we NUKE them with 100+ seat shift of power and take back BOTH the house and senate, then they will be without excuse.
The interpretation of this poll is a compleat crock. In a race that Miller will probably win by as few as a few hundred to a thousand votes, to claim that Palin’s endorsement was not a major factor where 15% reported her endorsement was very important to their vote, and another 20% reported that her endorsement was moderately important, defies logic.
Second article today that slants weird on S Palin.
Dear Sean Lengell:
Sarah Palin pretty much IS the Tea Party, so spare us. Better yet, rewrite the stupid article, your jealousy and misogyny is showin'. Geek.
Yeah sure PPP. There is no way he would have even been on the radar screen with voters had he not been endorsed by Palin.
Of course the enmity between Murkowski and Palin was VERY well known. People that voted for Joe over Lisa would have been siding with Palin.
Another point is that Palin’s grassroots organization from her Governor’s run must have helped directly, or indirectly together with the Tea Party.
But fair is fair. The Tea Party and Joe himself (a good candidate) were major factors OF COURSE, and Dan Fagan (a radio host in Alaska) and even Huck to a lesser extent helped Joe with the last few %.
To the Times:
Then stop keeping count of W-L stats.
OK, since no one who voted for Murkowski was driven by Palin’s endorsement, does that mean that 35% of the total vote was in reliance on Palin’s endorsement in some measure? That would mean that 75% of the people voting for Miller were swayed by Palin in some measure? Right?
I don’t care who’s responsible, as long as he wins. When is this thing going to be decided?
“Im telling you they are trying soooo hard to minimize Sarah, funny stuff right there.”
I guess they must have noticed the rockstar size turnouts whenever she appeared in the ‘08 campaign. Didn’t publicize the turnouts but must have noticed. :-)
Why on earth would anyone poll that question? Why is it so important to put Palin down? Has she been bragging that she is a king maker? It has been other people keeping score. The Lame Stream was quite happy to point out those primaries where the candidate she endorsed lost. Did anyone bother to survey those electorates to see if Palin’s endorsement had any impact on their vote? No, the media was quite content to assume that she failed.
Hey, I'm going to pretend to be a member of the dino media so someone help me out here. Is 15 percent of 50,000 greater or less than 1,400? C'mon, c'mon I'm pretending to be a CBS correspondent so a little help. Math is hard so leave things rounded off and don't bring up anything about that 15 percent voting for Murky instead. Let's just say they stayed home.
Actually that in itself is huge. Normally for Palin and Obama (a few months ago) they say the influence in total is around 15%. PPP spinning headlines, as usual.
WHO do they fear?
Wait a minute, 35% of those polled said that Palin’s endorsement was “somewhat” to “very” important?
The other 65% were influenced by the national publicity and the sudden rise in stature of the total unknown.
We are counting ballots trying to measure a 1000 vote win or loss?
Palin clearly dragged him across the winning line.
Palin influenced 35% of the voters to vote for Miller to overthrow a sitting senator yet for some reason this isn’t significant?
Excellent observation, and could be right.
PPP in one way or other are always trying to minimise Palin. In fact, some of their polls that include Palin are extremely suspicious. I think that is pretty well acknowledged.
