The GOP has not been a particularly conservative political party. With the notable exception of the Reagan years.

While the GOP might yet become more conservative for awhile as a result of the tea parties, it’ll be back to it’s pork loving ways soon enough.

Oh, I agree with you. Reagan was the first President I voted for. I was College Republican President in the Mid-80’s, and a Republican activist right up until the RINO’s drove me crazy and I had to leave the party in 1996.

It would be nice to see a return to a Reaganesque Conservatism. Although, not even Reaganism is enough to save us now — only a return to real Constitutionalism will suffice at this point. Reaganism was approaching that, but not about attaining it.

In any case, that a Republican party would deliver the kind of Constitutionalist ideals we need to survive as a nation is, even at this late date and facing the perils we do now, wishful thinking.
