The NRA has a long history of taking credit for work started, even mostly completed, by others. It seems that local activists often start something, do most of the work, then the NRA steps in and helps a little at the end. Ronald Reagan said that it is amazing what you can accomplish if you don't care who gets the credit.

Worse is when the NRA steps in at the last minute and tells local activists how it *must* be done, including compromises that always seem to work against what the local activists were trying to do. I have read a number of stories where the NRA stepped in and made things worse. I don't have personal knowledge of all of those, but I have personally seen the NRA leadership act in less than honorable fashion. When you have tens of millions of dollars at stake, people have great temptations to do dishonorable things.

Speaking of the NRA, why in the heck are they not endorsing Sharron Angle?

We really need to lean on the NRA, it's time they listened to us "little people" who pay their bills.

I think a cut-up membership card sent in would be a start. As much as I love American Rifleman, I can do without it until they decide to be responsible to the membership.

That's a good question. A better one is "Has the NRA given any money at all to Senator Reids Senatorial campaign?"

Alan squared (Gura and Gottlieb) along with Dick Heller, Otis McDonald, Colleen and David Lawson are the reason these cases were won.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting both all of these people with the exception of Mr. Heller. It has been a pleasure to have met such patriots and fighters for their and my 2nd Amendment rights. The NRA should give them and anyone else involved directly in the case credit.

I remember the NRA didn’t want a Supreme Court case, they were waiting around for the perfect case that was very unlikely to come.

They are backing reid, and has upset many members. The NRA got something, I should search FR history for the thread, but indeed they did endorse him. Personal acquaintances confirm their canceled membership over this. National Gun Owners club has been a suggested alternative.

“At least they’re not backing reid”

They gave $5000 to the Harry Reid campaign and $0 to the Sharron Angle campaign. The NRA is giving me a severe case of heart burn.

See post #12. They are not backing him now at any rate and yes, they give me indigestion on a regular basis.

Chris Cox is the one who almost endorsed Hairy Screed in Nevada because he probably would win.

He should be thrown out. I’m sure my snail-mail letter to him, threatening to quit the NRA after 25 years, made the difference. /self-importance...

Because Tom didn’t know what he’s talking about and I sent him an email to explain it. He was whining the NRA didn’t give credit to the SAF in their magazine. Well, Tom, grow up. It’s their magazine.

The reality is the SAF did it first with their first press release. Here’s a copy of the release FROM THEIR WEBSITE.
THE SAF DIDN’T MENTION THE NRA.

MCDONALD VICTORY MAKES THIS 4TH OF JULY REALLY WORTH CELEBRATING, SAYS SAF
For Immediate Release: 7/2/2010
BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation’s landmark victory in McDonald v. City of Chicago, which incorporates the Second Amendment to the states, makes this weekend’s 4th of July “really worth celebrating,” said SAF founder Alan Gottlieb.

“I cannot think of a more auspicious moment for Americans to celebrate freedom, liberty and America’s birthday than on the heels of a Supreme Court ruling that underscores what those terms are all about,” said Gottlieb. “The right to keep and bear arms has long set our country apart from other nations, and has been the foundation upon which our other civil rights have remained in existence.

“Who knows where this nation might have been today,” he continued, “if we had not had the means to resist tyranny at Lexington and Concord? America may get a bad rap for our so-called ‘gun culture,’ but it is a fair question to ask our critics around the world where they would be today if America had not twice come to their rescue, and for that, America needs never to apologize.

“Armed citizens today carry on in the tradition of our self-reliant ancestors,” Gottlieb added. “We are the true first responders, defending our homes, families and family-owned businesses, and now our individual right to keep and bear arms in every corner of this greatest nation has been affirmed by the Supreme Court.

“We’re particularly proud to be at the center of this historic victory, along with our friends at the Illinois State Rifle Association and, of course, Otis McDonald, Adam Orlov and David and Colleen Lawson,” Gottlieb stated.

“Lately,” he concluded, “some politicians and their gun prohibitionist supporters have suggested repealing the Second Amendment, or adopting restrictive laws and rules that would regulate this fundamental civil right out of practical existence. If you want to see real fireworks, this weekend or anytime, you just go ahead and try. A move that foolish would ignite political and legal fireworks that would make this weekend’s shows seem bland by comparison!”

The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against the cities suing gun makers and an amicus brief and fund for the Emerson case holding the Second Amendment as an individual right.

-END-

The SAF started this crybaby hissy fit. Now it’s time for some gun owners to grow up.

Majority Leader Chuckie Schumer. If that happens, you would ask why the NRA didn’t stop it.

The NRA stopped Parker because that was before Alito and Roberts. Robert Levy didn’t care if he won or not or he didn’t anticipate the fact leftist Justices can’t read.

After Alito and Roberts, the Heller case became the perfect case except the Gun Owners of America wanted the Narrow View. The Narrow View won and we’re stuck sueing on individual cases. The goa still hasn’t sued a single city or state. Thanks for nothing, goa.

The NRA is about money and power more than defending the 2A.

In doubt? You need to watch this from start to finish:
