Lebanese Neighborhood Erases Jewish Name

A long-time Jewish neighborhood in the Lebanese city of Sidon that kept its Jewish name throughout the tribulations of Lebanese-Israeli tensions has finally lost the name. The residents renamed the neighborhood, known for decades as Haret al-Yahud (Neighborhood of the Jews), Haret Gaza. It happened at the end of last week, when the Arab world commemorated International Quds Day (Jerusalem Day).

Sidon is the third-largest city in Lebanon, located about midway between the two largest cities, Tyre and Beirut, and only some 60 kilometers from Israel. Haret al-Yahud was long populated mostly by Jews, part of the Lebanese Jewish population that numbered close to 24,000 in 1948.

What a tremendous display of tolerance on the part of the Arabs.

(Yeah, it's sarcasm)

Sarcasm? My friend what you describe could become a very real possibility someday and given just how quickly and cravenly the Mayor and city caved to the Saracens , they’d raise even less opposition they may have showed over the “Victory Mosque’’. Next Saturday is nine years on from the awful day.

During the Nazi occupation of Europe, Hitler tried to erase all evidence that Jews had ever lived in Europe. Now history repeats itself.

Typical Muslim BS. They will work to destroy everything that is not Muslim. Wake up America and read the writing on the wall. It is not too late to push back hard against Muslims in the US. Let them know we do not accept their ways.

Being of lebanese origin, this is a shame really and like some people here said very petty.. Having said that, it is wrong to claim the lebanese are intolerant. In fact lebanon is the only country in the middle east where the population of jewish people increased after 1948. The number however dwindled to almost nothing during the lebanese civil war, as, much like many christians and to a lesser extent muslims, they emigrated away from lebanon and set up lives elsewhere.
