Sen. Byrd's family denounces campaign attack ad

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The family of the late Robert C. Byrd blasted the GOP nominee for his U.S. Senate seat Sunday after he used an image from Byrd's memorial service in a TV ad attacking the Democratic nominee.

The ad by Republican John Raese's campaign seeks to link President Barack Obama to Gov. Joe Manchin by displaying an image of the two Democrats at the state Capitol ceremony marking Byrd's June 28 death.

Raese and Manchin are running in a special election for what remains of Byrd's term. Byrd was history's longest-serving member of Congress when he died at 92.

Raese's campaign manager, Jim Dornan, defended the use of the image.

"That's a stock photo. We had no idea it was from the memorial service," he said.

But Byrd's family called for the campaign to withdraw the ad.

The family states that this ad is "insulting to the memory of Robert Byrd." Half of everything in West Virginia is named after Robert Byrd. That's insulting to the U.S. taxpayers that footed the bill for his pork barrel politics and his narcissism.

There must be more to tie the two politicians together than a photo-op at the dead-Byrd service. Byrd’s family may be sorry they prodded the GOP to get some substance to the lame ad.

Well, if as Clinton said, Byrd just joined the KKK because he needed to get elected, then anything goes in West Virginia and using a picture from the memorial is nothing.

Notice crAP/Yahoo doesn’t publish the photo in question. Just supposed to take their word for it that they agree the photo in question is in poor taste.

Byrd was a pretty good fiddle player, he should have stuck to that!

I must ask... what on earth could possibly be insulting to Mr. Byrd’s
family after their watching his utter contempt for the American
people ALL his life?

Well - they could remove that photo & use one with Byrd in his KKK outfit!

I think the underlining issue here is: they want the ad pulled because any picture with Obama is poison to Democrats. Has nothing to do with Byrd.

Insulting the memory of a statist Grand Kleagle? That is hard to do.

“insulting to the memory of Robert Byrd”

I guess his KKK days didn't embarrass the family since they kept their freaking mouths shut about that. He was an insult to the entire country for much of what he did during his tenure in the Senate.

***BYRD: A CRAZY OLD FOOL DEMOCRAT WHO SUGGESTS THE BEHEADING THE PRESIDENT***

02.10.10

Wiping drool from his mouth, Democrat Senator Byrd raved on laughing about GWB being the Commander and Chief, and saying...”you know where that came from, Comander and Chief?...from Charles the first....you know what happened to him, he was beheaded”

The ad does not mention Byrd. The ad has nothing to do with Byrd. One photo shows Joe Manchin sitting next to Obama. That's the great insult to the Byrd family?

Presumably if the photo of Manchin and Obama had been taken inside a college lecture hall, that would have demonstrated Raese's lack of respect for education. Had the photo been taken at a church wedding, it would have proved Raese's contempt for religion and marriage.

Nonsensical whining by idiots.

My, my. So touchy!

The DemonRATs are in high dudgeon about everything.

They find a reason to get emotional or litigious for every, single political move by their opposition.

I think it’s high time they received ample doses of their own medicine.
