California Regulates Tire Pressure (no joke)
California.gov ^ | 09/06/2010

Posted on 09/08/2010 5:22:25 AM PDT by EBH

Link is to the pdf final regulation.

Take your vehicle in for repair, ...

they are required to complete the tire air inspection.

Sure you can decline, but have to either provide proof it was done in the last 30 days or promise to have it done in a week.

I predict that this will actually INCREASE fuel consumption. For example, I have a truck I drive much less than once a month. I will have to drive it down the mountain to get it inspected? How about boat trailers? This is just plain idiotic.

I have never seen a rule so likely to induce a negative reaction on the part of the public. I hope the greenies and the Slave Party takes the brunt, but with Arnold in power, one can make the case that this is designed to provoke a reaction against Republicans.

I've joked for years with my kids/grandkids that I want to get a donkey.

A donkey doesn't spook like a horse nor need grains and much less vet care.

A donkey isn't as stubborn as a mule.

A donkey ‘gases up’ along the side of the road, for free.

I think I'm not kidding anymore,

Indeed, I think I'll get ahead of the curve and start breeding donkeys.

While living overseas I watched the UK version of COPS and ticketing people for low tire pressure was a big past time of the police. Ofcourse, it's just another revenue stream to suck dry the milk cows for what little they have left.

They stop a car full of illegals and let them go free into Brit society but heaven help the anglo saxon tax payer with a low tire.

Man, when are people going to say enough? Look what they have done and continue to do to our most beautiful state, once the seat of the American dream. A travesty.

An out in section 5:
(5) A customer may decline the check and inflate service if the
customer affirms one of the following:
(A) He or she has performed (or had performed) a tire pressure
check and inflate service within the last 30 days, or
(B) He or she will perform (or will have performed) a tire
pressure check and inflate service within the next 7 days.
(6) If a tire inflation service was not performed as provided in
subsections (d)(3)-(5), the automotive service provider must indicate on the vehicle service invoice why the service was not completed.

How many breathes of air you consumed.

That was the first draft. Now they only measure the amount of CO2 when you exhale.

And tax it.

If California’s doing this with their own money, fine, but if Federal money is involved then let’s have that chopped.

But California could be wasting its own money on this and eventually they’ll get a Federal bailout. Same thing ... we helped pay for the tire pressure inspections.

Here’s the trick to the section you excerpted,

It says you can do this yourself, right. At least that is how it reads, right?

Prove you did it yourself.

Sounds like a plan to me, Kenworth or Peterbilt?

My buddies swear by the new Volvos but I’m traditional and I have been driving a Peterbilt for the last 15 years.

It is called OnStar.

I had a vehicle with OnStar, it would report to me via email on my oil changes, tire inflation etc.

The technology is available.

Prove you did it yourself.

A lot of vehicles already have electronic tire pressure sensors. It will be a short technology leap to be able to read them at roadside along with a photo of your license plate, and electronically send you a ticket for incorrect pressure.

Another make-work position for a government bureaucrat........

Another revenue generator. Whenever spike strips are deployed in yet another California highspeed car chase, they can add "Failure to Maintain tire Pressure" charges to the long list of charges... well that or give law-abiding citizens a ticket as they change a flat tire on the side of the road.

Remember when California! evoked visions of The Golden State--a booming economy--endless possibilites!

Now it evokes images of human excrement on the sidewalks of San Francisco--an economy crushed by regulations and nit-wit laws--and Leftist morons haggling over how much tire pressure should be legal.
